I hold my ground, although I bent a rule. I bought a nice cache from an elderly friend of my family's. his grandfather found all of these in 1920 while plowing behind a mule. He was plowing a garden spot when the largest banner stone rolled out. On the way back down, while making another row, the small one was found. Both were in meant condition and the garden spot was moved. Within a circle 7 foot in circumference all of what I'm about to show was found. I have drooled over these pieces my whole life and never saw them as part of my collection. My friend, who ask that I not put his name on the net is elderly and has cancer that has been in remission. He didn't say if its slipping back on him or not, but death seems heavy on his mind. These great artifacts are hard for me to enjoy knowing that a great friend and server of this country is stressed over money, health care, death and who will respect his treasures after death takes it's toll. I gave a pretty penny for this stuff but also granted permission to hunt the farm where these were found. I hope in time I'll enjoy these more. They are great!

Well thanks folks for clearing that up. I'm sorry this gentleman got taken. It happens. I tried to be gentle, but sincere in my post. Wasn't trying to start any crap. But it was pretty obvious they were reproductions. I wouldn't have said anything if I had a doubt. I was a little taken aback though by how quickly the moderators scolded me. I understand the necessity to keep harmony on the forum, but I felt I was just doing this gentleman a favor. You wouldn't believe how often this happens! Artifakery is a huge business. We've all been taken at one time or another. It sucks! I've also known fellow collectors that got taken with the "salted field" routine.
I think we should all stick together here and help each other out. That means pointing out (in as nice a way as possible) when you think someone has acquired a fake piece. If that person resists, then just back off. I'm not here to cause trouble & apologize if I came across that way.

But, as soon as I opened this thread I knew those were repros but I didn't want to be the one to get that debate started. Sorry to hear you got ripped off. If I was you I would contact the police and inform them of what happened and go after the scumbag that did this.

I feel like an ass. I couldn't allow this to pass, without telling you guys the truth. The whole story sounds wild, but that's how the whole thing went. I felt something was wrong from the get go, I just couldn't tell what was wrong. If anyone runs across a cache just like these, but real, they are stolen. What a gutsy person to hand a guy a reproduction of his authentic artifacts, in his own house. I hate artifakers. Even more, I hate a thief! Hate is a strong, but appropriate word, in this case.

Is there any known address?
Where did he get his name and number?
Alot of questions I know... does your friend have dated photos of the originals?
I'm not implying anything here but... I must say your friend has motive.
I would be concerned that "he" still has the originals..and hiered someone to make casts of them.
It's a shady world bro.
Check the bogus papers..is every mistake in just the right place to erase a trail?

No no bro. My friend is loyal. He's old and had one pulled over on him. He offered my money back, I refused it because he was so upset. Also, he was the victim, even more so than I.

I know the guy that did the dirty work. If nothing else, he will not deal artifacts after all of this. It's a live and learn. Yeah, I would love to choke him out, but then I'd go to jail. Lol! It's not over.
