I thought it could’ve been a garden hoe but the handle attachment point seems to be in the wrong direction for that. It kinda resembles some of the war axes or tomahawks but the blade shape is different. Any information that can point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Found just outside of a 18th century cellar hole. Thanks for the look.

Not an axe head, but something similar I think. Maybe a tool for the final shaping and fitting of logs for a structure?

Could it be a hand forged tobacco knife? (for cutting tobacco stalks) Looks awfully thin to use on wood.

I think it's too short for a froe but it is long and narrow. Perhaps something used to cut mortises in beams? Anyway old and cool!

All great ides! Now I’m wondering if it’s not even a tool at all. Possibly a pedal or a gudgeon?

If forced to guess , I'd call it a kindling axe.
Wood shingle type slabs ,or clear pine, or fat pine ect. reserved for such use being reduced to small sticks to start a fire.
