Notices of Discovery are to be found in the "Register of New York Gold and Silver Mines" in the State Archives within the State Education Department on the eleventh floor. The department has been likened to entering "a maximum security prison". Bring iron-clad ID, no personal items, and have read a list of 25 strictly enforced rules, etc. Sounds like New York doesn't it? All of the documents that you might need are there in one place. Maybe one day they'll digitize the whole thing, but don't hold your breath.

There are no legitimate gold mines in New York, none. The only gold ever found in New York, was brought down in glaciers from Canada. That hasn't stopped people from selling "gold and silver" mines in New York.

Check out the New York State Geologist reports.

Have you ever availed yourself upon the documents of the Secretary of State in Albany? Or is this just an opinion... as you stated... "The only gold ever found in New York, was brought down in glaciers from Canada." Yes by glaciers, not a hard rock deposit.

Isn’t any gold found in NY the property of the state? The state of draconia! I think they’re even greedier than FL.
It is the "property" of the state, but can be leased by filing the proper forms with the Secretary of State.

NY has some regulations pertaining to mining permits for gold and silver. These refer to a "Notice of Discovery", Section 82. It basically states that you file a form, plus about $50 in fees (of course) Apparently, there have been approximately 11,000 sworn statements from 1791 to 1997 made with the Office of the NY SOS. Yes, the gold "belongs" to the state, but for $50 or so, and as long as you pay a royalty and that the find is not on Forest Preserve Lands, it's yours to mine. Check out the link below -
