More fun in New Hampshire.
Dang you were determined!!! That's a lot of digging. The big gear might be some century old mining or logging equipment. Possibly some type of winch. Looks like more of the machine is there where you dug the gear out. Nice old buckle too.

Yea, it took a while. The only reason I dug it, was it was throwing a hard 90 read, along with a bunch of iron reads. I’ve been running it on pro mode. I wouldn’t dig this, given the iron all around it. I decided today I was going to dig the combo sounds to learn the language better. Once I saw how big it was. I said why not.

In the first picture, you appear to have a piece from a mig welder gun assembly. There are usually 3 pieces: a wire feed tip, a nozzle and a gas diffuser. Under the buckle, it appears to be a small chain drive/driven sprocket. Nice artifacts.

These are similar to what I think you may have. There are different styles depending on Brand: Lincoln, Miller, Hobart, etc and they have changed some over the years. Also, can you show a couple more angles on the left hand item?

did you dig the item pictured to the left of the big gear? it may tell the story of what it is. is this by chance near a creek?
I've seen gears just like that at mill sites.

No that item to the left is still there. I plan to go back and dig the whole thing out around it and see what else there is in that area.

the gear in this pic this is from a mill ,note the square piece looks like the part still in the ground at your dig site. so is your dig site near a creek ?

there is a river way down a very steep embankment. A probably several hundred feet below. The item I dug up, is at the very top off the wooded embankment. The property seems much to high in elevation for that to of connected to be powered by water. I cant rule it out as a possibility until i dig deeper. Next time i go back I can take pictures as the dig progresses. For some reason I feel like this may of had to do with logging. Maybe some type of winch. I can picture some type of crank or hand or horse powered by the top down. I’m no expert, I will post some photos of the dig in comparison to the river also.
