Hello. I have recently come across this piece. It looks like a pendant and was in a jewelry lot I recently purchased. The lot contained items from the early 1900's-1980's. It tests positive for both gold and silver. I cannot find any markings and I cannot see anything similar anywhere.

I have spent countless hours online trying to identify it. I do know that it is a scarab and most likely a pendant, although it would hang upside down and I have not seen any others made that way.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I looked at this for a while and didn't see even one other example of a scarab piece with the wings pointing down. I did, however, see a number of examples with something hanging from the bottom of the scarab sometimes representing a scarab egg or young beetle. The Egyptian scarab symbol represents the cycle of life.

Are you sure there is no indication of fasteners or attachments near the top of the wings? I couldn't tell from the pictures.

Anyway, I'm with ARC. First thought was " Egyptian revival jewelry". Turn of the 20th C give or take a couple decades. I know that doesn't narrow it down much, but without markings it's hard to know much for sure.

One thing for sure, it is a lovely piece. I hope you can make it wearable again.

Thanks for your response. No, there is absolutely nothing on the wings or top part that indicates there was something else attached at any point. I've looked at it thoroughly with a loupe. Can't see anything at all.

Hi, do I see letters on the inside of the pendant loop? I thought it looked like sterling unless its just bend marks. Still is a cool piece! Paul:icon_thumleft:
