Recently I just returned from a trip to Brazil, (no there were no issues metal detecting the beaches)
But my question is, ALL the coins in Brazil are made of IRON and they don't read at all or they read really funky on ANY metal detector.
I was wondering if anyone else here has ever had this experience and what was (if any) your solution ?
I was using my XP DEUS II, and discovered that all the coins come up as 00-01-02-03 and Bottle Caps were 04-06 for the most part, and yes the coins came out rusted and I used vinegar to clean them .. But the beach I was hunting you couldn't move a foot without hitting a bottle cap or pull-tab.. (tons of trash)
I saw 10 other guys out there hunting and talked to them some, although I DON"T speak Portuguese, I was able to garner a few facts from them ... Everyone one of them used some type of MINELAB, all of the people I stopped and talked to said that their machines DID NOT pick up coins. So they were basically either digging everything (without getting coins) or as one guy said.... he could hear the difference from Iron bottle caps from other trash..

I guise my question is, if you have been in this situation, (I know Mexico is like this too) what was or wasn't your solution, did you dig EVERYTHING Iron included to get the coins, did you skip them hoping for bigger fish, were there settings that seemed to work better to isolate Iron coins over bottle caps ?
What Machine did you use just out of curiosity.. ETC..
After 3 weeks, I was finally about to set my discrim to reject 90% of bottle caps by number and listen to what each individual target sounded like and make individual decisions about whether I wanted to dig a target or not, but it still made a LOT of noise because of the number of targets present and the machines attempt to determine whether to target something or not..
Any input is appreciated and interesting thanks !
