Hello all. Got another new one here. I find myself retired looking for new hobbies. I decided upon Metal Detecting. Stumbling around the internet, I found this great site.

I live in the Texas Panhandle. I know where tons of old oilfield camps were. I also have quick access to N. Mexico and Oklahoma. Detector came in last week, just waiting for the snow to melt now.

Yes, I purchashed a Fisher F2 to start out with. It has good reviews as a beginners detector. If I decide it's for me, I can always upgrade. I think I will really enjoy this hobby. Back in the 30's, this area was covered with refineries. Back then, the companies built housing areas for the workers and their families. They've all been torn down now. I know where lots of them were. I can also name four ghost towns within a 50 mile radius of my home. I should have plenty of sites to keep me busy.

In the beginning you will need a lot of patience , no matter what , don't get discouraged . Give it at least a full year is my advice , the places you described will more than likely have its share of trash , but finding the little nuggets of good stuff is worth it , to me . HH'ing and Good Luck :hello:
