SO WE WENT BACK TO OUR SPOT THAT HAS PRODUCED INJUNS, HALF DIMES AND LARGE CENTS ALONG WITH A 3 CENT PIECE TODAY. BOY WAS IT A GOOD HUNT. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A 1777 SPANISH REALE BUT IM NOT SURE YET. IT WAS ABOUT 9 INCHES DOWN AND GAVE A VERY IFFY SIGNAL. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A CANADIAN SILVER. I ALSO GOT AN 1845 LGC. HOLY COW I CANT BELIEVE IT. I THOUGHT THE DAY WAS GOING GREAT WHEN MY PARTNER FOUND AN INDIAN HEAD PENNY. THIS IS MY 3RD LARGE CENT IN A WEEK. HOW CAN I CLEAN THIS COIN WITHOUT HURTING IT. I WANT TO GET THE DATE OFF OF IT. ANY INFO ON THE SILVER COIN WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.HH

Great finds for sure  I'd use olive oil on that large cent, it looks to be in very good shape. I'd let it soak for several hours in the olive oil then scrub it with a soapy toothbrush myself.
Don't do as advised above!!!!! You will want too soak in distill water then if you have to clean the copper cent more ,put in bath of hot peroxcide after your done bathing the copper cent put it back in a distill water bath...

this method is not advised on any silver !!!!!!!!!!
I've had peroxide destroy a coin before. I was refering to the copper not silver.

here's one (copper) that I cleaned last year with olive oil only

Olive oil will leach out of the coin for years. Peroxide is the only method I use on COPPER, but never on silver.
Since we are on the subject, here is one cleaned with a PEROXIDE bath, and then soaked in distilled water:

Just to be clear the peroxide destroyed the coin no more than guns shoot people without a person pulling the trigger. I use peroxide all the time with great results, but not on all coins because some I know it will probably hurt more than help.

I agree with Iron Patch, if your coin has obvious corrosion an flaking you do not want to bath in peroxide as you wil lost most of the detail on the coin... You also need to stand there an watch your coin to make sure youdon't over expose the coin to cleaning... The olive oil method may work but it may create a bigger mess in the long run not to mention it is a very very slow methed...

If it were me I wouldnt clean that,it has beutiful patina. What ever you do dont run water over it,I would keep water away from it entirely.I learned that the hard way.You can drop it in boiling hydrogen peroxide, that works well and doesnt hurt the patina.

well done - hope you can get that crud off of that beautiful reale!

looks mint under there.
