Hello All,

Shanegalang and I went out digging today with the goal of expanding our Spanish Silver empire for 2013. We succeeded in coming closer to our goal of 31 Spanish for 2013 (which would give us a total of 50 Spanish over two years).

Things started out fairly quickly as we dove into the 80 degree misty, mosquito-swarmed cane fields. On the second row, I got a signal that read a consistent 70 on the F75. I just knew it'd be a coin, and suspected a 1 Real (my last 1 Real read 72, but it was a Mexican Republic 1R). I flipped it out of the dirt, about 1 inch deep, and started yelling for Shaneglanag to come over. It was indeed a 1Real. Carolus IIII, dated 1793.

Shane didn't have to wait very long for a piece of the action. On the very same row, he got a good beep and found an 1808 Half Real in BEAUTIFUL condition right on top of the ground!!

We then hit it more, digging some flat buttons (man, that F75 can find some buttons!) and pipe stems, along with the usual musketballs and pottery. I dug a strange piece. Not sure what it is. It is small. Anyone dug anything similar?

I dug one "button" only to come home and discover that it was an IMPOSTER! :laughing9:

Oh well, I think I've dug about 3 clad coins this year. :laughing7:

I also was lucky enough to get another GREEN trade bead, and this one is LARGE! Same style and diameter as the "Russian Blue" trade beads which many seem to think came over in the late 1800s. I hate to tell folks that this site was long gone by the Civil War, so I think that date needs to be re-examined.

Here is a photo of the bead, and you can see it in situ on the video:

Here's the video, and photos of the rest of the finds:

I should've known...change it up a little, dig a gold coin....all jokes aside finding all those Spanish coins are awesome....

Once again congrats to both of you on a fine hunt! I hope you can make your goals!

Holy cow, you guys are kicking a$$ out there in the cane fields! Congrats to both of you on the Spanish Will. :occasion14:
That bead is just as impressive. What a cool find. I like that super rare roached memorial penny "button" too.
Well done. Can't wait to see your new detecting reality show - "The Spanish Slayers".
Congrats,
MM

Great hunt once again, congrats on the silver.

Great hunt guys! Congrats on 25 for the year. It's amazing to see all of the early American History that y'all have rescued from those fields. Another trade bead is awesome, makes you wonder how much non-metallic finds that is there that you walk over? I hope you can find you some coppers, but until then keep digging silver. :icon_thumleft:

The long and consistent hot streak you guys have been on is nothing short of amazing. I have no doubt about you reaching that lofty goal. Another great hunt!

It's a good thing you both scored good finds early due to the rainout. However, I'm sure you guys enjoyed a nice lunch. Shanes HR is in better than average condition. I'm predicting 60 Spanish in 2013. WTG & HH, Q.

SOMEWHERE there has GOT to be a gold coin waiting for us. I hope as Crusader says, it is "all about numbers."

Yeah, they asked us to be on Spanish Slayers for the DestroyTheHobby Channel, but I told them to shove it. :laughing9:

The crusty zincoln WAS a rare find for us! :D

I wouldn't mind some coppers. I'd really like to sift our sites, but eventually we will dig the pits at these sites which should net us some great early 1800s bottles.

haha I wish! It is all about whether they plow key fields after harvest or whether they're in cycle to be plowed NEXT year after harvest, or the year after even. If they don't plow them, I don't see this spanish silver streak continuing. It might turn into a Seated coin streak, or a mercury dime streak. :D

What can I say? As usual, we shine like silver:laughing7:, pun intended :) Until next time, Cheers! :)

O lord, I found a blue bead or more like yours and didn't keep it; after all I live in mardi gras country where beads are found everywhere; never thought about trade beads! Knowing is half the battle...grrr....

Man oh man, keep those beads! They are trade beads! When you get enough of 'em, string 'em up on a thread and put 'em in the display case. They are at least 150 years old!

An extraordinary hunt gentlemen!
