Another burglary here?

No footprints, no sign of external prying on the lock. Think it still was the wind. It was really howling up to 40 mph. Well, it won't happen again with the new lock. That plate just wore out. But at 5 am you gotta be sure. I never used to lock the doors and got the alarm system twenty years ago. It foiled one burglary and gave us an alert to a lightning strike and an early alert to the woodstove (which I no longer have) going off. It was worth it. I definitely want an intruder knowing they have been spotted. I don't want them coming in, so the alarm is good to go. I have no desire to teach anybody a lesson or anything like that. As they say down home, just leave me alone!

Glad your ok Smokeythecat. Our house was broken into Oct. while we were at work, came in thru small kitchen window. My room and jewelry were only targets. They got 3 pcs gold all the rest as costume.

Think it was the kid next door. Wish we had our German Shepard. We now have cameras.

I got a kick out of this part, they took 2 gold coin replicas, a gold ingot replica was a lighter, would loved to have been @ the pawn shop they tried to cash that in at! Lol!

They opened cans I keep metal detecting trash what's its in, and left them, lol! They also left the dirty clad $100. Worth! They are very very lucky they DIDN'T touch my detecting equipment...heads would have ROLLED on that one!!!!!!

I only see this getting worse as the economy slides south. Be safe !

I see it getting worse too. My main concern would be if I were home when something happened and then for my pets. The rest of the stuff is just stuff. It is insured. It can be replaced. I'm not putting my life at risk for "stuff". Like the pros said, the alarm signs dissuade most of the amateurs, the pros won't come in if you're home, the pros will come in if you're not home and stay 3 minutes, and the druggies, oh oh, there lies the problem. I have two security cameras running, have for months. Those little red lights are somewhat intimidating at night. (They are not hooked to the computer). It will only keep the amateurs away anyhow. The message iis with the signs and cameras, "this place is too hard", and they'll move on. Except for the idiots who thought the signs were bogus this past spring.

More fun than a gun.

I almost stepped on one of those years ago in New York.

Yep.. In a quite house you rack a 12 gage pump,,, Most people would run!

Reminds me of a funny story. A friend and neighbor who has sadly passed away a couple of years ago, was a retired Marine Corps Colonel, a Viet Nam vet who was in the worst of it, tough as nails, a take no crap kind of a person. He had an unruly daughter who was dating a punk he didn't care for. Long story short, he made the punks life miserable, so punk arrives at house with huge friend with beer gut, tattoos, beard and long hair and leather, body guard type, boy friend was little. Colonel has a 12 gage by the door. Door bell rings, punk and buddy are on porch. Punk introduces buddy who is going to teach Colonel a lesson. Colonel picks up shot gun and stuffs it in big guys beer gut. Big guys eyes roll back in his head and he faints dead away. Punk runs away, never to return. The Colonel was a great guy.

The 00 buck is a good idea, but my preference is #4 buck……..in truth, most shotgun rounds will do well to resolve the threat…
Rack the shotgun???? Why would it not have a round in the chamber……...

Because you want him to mess his pants before you pull the trigger. :dontknow:

Why NOT have a round in the chamber? To scare the hell out of the intruder so they'll LEAVE and I WON'T have to use the gun! It actually worked for me once about 20 years ago.
