Ancient ?

to my my left is a giant turtle made out of stones, with its head supported by smaller stones, its unreal how much work they did to get all those stones there, then to lift the massive head stone. i found a very usual green stone there, natural cooper? i dont know, havent found one since.

Hey Dog,

Can you tell us how big that stone is and what shape it is? Roger Snow wrote about green stones that glowed in the moonlight and were part of Tanit monuments.

Deities were often represented in Phoenicia by an empty throne (Fig. 2), known as ‘Astarte Thrones’, believed to have been the focal point of most Phoenician sanctuaries in the later Iron Age. These thrones often have a betyl (standing stone) or a religious symbol (moon crescent, sun disc) to represent the particular deity. Libation scenes are also represented on these thrones.
Music seems to have been also an integral part of the religious rituals as attested by terracotta statuettes depicting musicians performing at religious ceremonies by playing the lyre, the tambourine (Fig. 3) and the double-pipe.

Wow mdog, thanks for telling us about that info that Roger Snow put out. iam gonna say it was about 4 inches wide, about six inches long about 1.5- 2 inches thick, with the shape like a rectangle ,with one end kinda on a rounded angle, like if you hold out the back of your hand, fingers together, thumb tucked in under the palm. it was setting on a rock about 4ft high. that was one of my first trips into the field, sorry to say that i didnt photo it,i picked it up,looked at it and set it back down, i left it there. havent found a green one yet.

Thanks Dog. That 4 foot stone that the green rock was on, was it just a big round boulder or was it shaped like a cone or pyramid?

The stone column close to the stone chair is good if you're looking for a Phoenician site. And if this is close to the bull horns, that's even better. The column is also on a high place but not at the highest spot. Have you ever seen any carvings at this spot, maybe a snake or spiral?

mdog, if remember right the stone was rounded not real thick, with a kind of grove in it on top that the stone was laying in. this is in the foot hills, not far from a jeep trail,so someone could have easily moved it there. i seen modern shot gun brass around there. but that green stone was different for sure. now this was one of my very first places i checked out,so i was as green as that stone. i really didnt see a snake there, but if you go right from that standing stone, down that grade, just as it starts up,there is a snake there,i was gonna take his head home, but i couldnt do it. ill post a photo of it. that standing stone is facing up at that ancient turtle ,horned skullcap, thats the big mountain there.

With all this stuff so close together, the horns, stone column on a high place, stone chair, turtle and snake, the only thing left for you to do is find an ancient Old World coin or some other type of artifact in that area. I'd like to see that snake picture, or maybe just a description.

mdog, iam working on locating that snake photo,i posted it before, not sure if it was here,or another web site. i also remember now, that there is a long monument right beside the chair,to the right, + the one even farther right posted on this page. i think so anyways, iam looking for those photos also. i remember climbing up on it. iam looking forward to going back over those photos. ill get them posted.

mdog, heres the monument that is right at the chair, and the chair may be right in front of it,but lower, its been a few years since i was there, and i was a super green horn then, sorry for the misinformation, ill get back there and get it straighten out.View attachment 1097318

well, maybe this shouldn't be in this thread, but it is on the ancient turtles back, the one that has the horns and rocky. its the king and his scepter. its to show how other groups came here and raided these sites and did there markers to claim them. Even the Templars, Jesuits,Spanish and others left there mark here. The scepter is looking towards the sky,i guess at a constellation. These are just my thoughts, and i have only done this for about 3 years part time, so its up to you to make your own call on this work.I believe alot of good stuff came out of the belly of this turtle, you can bet those Templar's found there way in. I think i may have figured one of there markers out.View attachment 1097417View attachment 1097418View attachment 1097419i know, thats a big claim for a green horn to make, but its just my thoughts. any other thoughts? or info. on the king and his scepter ?
