Went back to the mill pond for a few bites. Bit of poison Ivy and few keeper.
The lead seal reads J Hustler & Bro. Manufacturers
On the back are the numbers. I haven't had the chance to research the seal yet.
I also managed to get a little cuff button and a complete turtle shell.

I guess my original thought of it being c1917 are a tad off from mid-Victorian Period. :laughing7:

Nice find buddy :icon_thumright: If anything... this is just the tip of the iceberg of finds from that site.

Dave
Thanks Dave
I'm trying to justify pond scum detecting.:tongue3Since I got rained out this pm, I was thinking of looking again in the morning.
I have to ask how did you arrive at 1917?

I saw the numbers on the back in the pic you sent me yesterday.
I thought either March 1 or Jan. 3 1917... of course it could be 1817. :laughing7:

I think it reads 31/17 which refers to the material & weight (I'm trying to find out exactly) Falling down the rabbit hole of information.

Thanks Tommy, it's nice to hear that we haven't cornered the market on those blood suckers. (One of many different things it seems)

Seen it on quite a few but not all, so it makes me think its to do with yardage left. ie something to do with length after some has been taken?

Hi Dale
Thanks very much.
Longtime since I've seen/chatted with you-(no over the pond trips for me). Hope all is well & you're getting out for a hunt or two.
Jim

Just thinking about how to preserve the piece?

Just don't cut it, burn it, or shoot it. Put it in a display case and the odd time take it out and suck on it a while, but apart from that you don't have to do anything.

I wasn't thinking of straightening it. I was more concerned with the fractured centre part coming apart.

Display case?

In strorage.

I can't imagine it would change any unless an outside force does it. Lead is way more stable than pewter that dries out and can crack or cracks get worse. If you were concerned that it could break by handling it or whatever, you could use the elmer's glue button method on the back to give it a little strength. Personally I would just display it and not handle it much.
