Wow man...In my 30 years of detecting I have never seen a steel penny or a nickel come out of the ground looking like that. The steel pennies have been nothing but unidentifiable rusted discs and the nickels have all been either dark brown to dark orangish. Looks like these were lost yesterday. How deep were they? Forgive me if I am way out of line but these coins do look like they all came from the same hole.....the hole in your pocket.
 

Yea I was gonna ask if you think it was a recent drop? Maybe a kid took a handful of someone's collection and lost it recently, because that penny couldn't have been in the ground very long I would imagine.
But that's pretty cool.

Thanks, I was surprised they were so shallow, in a kiddie playground about 2"
under very black soil and pine straw.
