I dunno. Maybe a cane end? Two inches long, One and a half inches at it's widest point. Has a few decorative designs around. Any guesses?
Thanks again!

cs foot officer's sword pommel - goes right with the confederate block "I" infantry button * iffin I was you I'd be headed right back there to see what else might be there -- if his sword got busted up and buttons from his uniform shirt and his pants top button (see o'bryan post below) lost as well--- it was clearly a "bad day" for that rebel officer most likely --never know what might have been lost there -- (maybe his life)
were they found at a fighting site or a camp site ? --if found at a camp site they might have scrapped out as damaged items that were "repaired" -soldiers often used down time at camp to make or mend items --which is why camp sites trash pit areas are often gold mines for finding cw artifacts
i see some suspender clips too in the photo --the o'bryan brothers "duck head" pants started in nashville, tennessee in 1865 (last year of the civil war )* and since they used they used "duck" cloth --treated canvas * to make work clothes , the duck became their symbol --they were "working clothes'--the levi's 'blue jeans" of their day .
what does the lantern wick raising / lowering knob by the spoon read ? if thats what it is
As far as I know there weren't any battles there. I do know that on several occasions they were known to pass thu and camp. So I would be more likely to lean towards scrapped out if that were the case...or could have just been that a veteran lived very near by? There was an old homesite close by so maybe someone tossed them out? I don't know. I do know that I have found other CW items very near this site that I'm rather fond of.
Thanks for the info on the duck button too! Always a pleasure to hear from you!
