I have been looking for artifacts since I was 10 years old. Iv been fortunate to find a lot of nice stuff but the one thing iv always looked for and just never seemed to find was an axe. I went out today to an area that iv searched before there are 2 beaches a calm side and a rough side where the waves break. I spent 3 hours on the calm side and only found some flakes I was bout to head home but decided to check the other side. The rough side I have walked hundreds of times and have only ever found 1 thumb scraper .... Until I stumbled upon this. I put it back in the sand to take pic... So I guess it's not a true insitu but when I saw it naturally I grabbed it. I think I'm still in shock .... I still can't believe I found it where I did. If anybody has any info as far as type please chime in. This was found on eastern shore of Maryland.

Nice find and congrats! Guess I kinda took Indian artifacts for granted growing up in the South. Luckily I kept a few I found as a kid walking the fields before planting. I kicked up my first one while dove hunting one day. Was hooked then!

Awesome find…I'm glad your years of hunting paid off!

i hunt a beach too....you can keep your corn fields! No comparison.

Wow ! Great find !!!

Whoopee! Now that is a ''Humdinger'' of an axe! :icon_thumright:

Super find, and congratulations from another Eastern Shore hunter!
I don't know what type to call it other than maybe 3/4 groove?
That is a nice big one, and from the photos looks to be an unusual color and material. It looks like it might be made of a pinkish quartzite material, which I think would be odd, and maybe not as durable as the darker grey and black material they usually occur in. Makes me wonder if it might have been more of a ceremonial piece than utilitarian, due to size and material?

What a door stopper it is. Big sucker, congrats on that. I bet many have walked past it thinking it was just a rock or a boat anchor
