If nothing else, what's left of your coin still provides enough characteristics to eliminate certain emperors from consideration. Your coin also offers the opportunity to shed some light on the history of the 'dupondius'.
"The Dupondius (plural dupondii) was introduced to the Roman economy during the Roman republic around 230 BC and were valued at 2 asses. Struck in brass, the first dupondii were massive, weighing over 600 grams and measuring over 80mm in diameter. Under the reforms of Augustus a new dupondius was introduced, this time made of orichalcum (an alloy of zinc and copper), but also valued at 2 asses, or half a sestertius. Early dupondii were primarily distinguished from asses by there heavier weight and golden color. Under Nero, radiate crowns were introduced to the portraits of the dupondii to make identification easier."

Ketchup contains fairly mild, organic acids. It's the acid which attacks the corrosion and, if strong enough or left in long enough, continues attacking the base metal beneath the corrosion. That's why care is needed in using this method. I have used Coke and lemon juice for the same purpose. It often leaves the coin with the base metal showing. It's a good method sometimes for getting identifiable details from a coin but should not be used on any coin that might have some monetary value.

Kind of gives some context.

I wish more people would give a general idea of where they found an item when they post it. I think it helps solve the mystery sometimes.
I'm with you and I have had a similar moan at others in the past but to be fair a Dupondius is a Dupondius no matter where it's found. If you where sad enough to check out any threads I've started since joining you'll find the vast majority I do state where I'm at, I just didn't think it mattered over this one though.✌️

It would help a lot is every member was required to list their location in their bio. Click on my avatar and you can see exactly where I’m at. 🤷🏼

I agree. I said in the post because some don’t like to list it in their profile.

It’s funny, I’m on a forum for old bicycles. All the members put their location in their bio and it’s not even a rule. I think treasure hunters must be a bit more paranoid!😜 Only half or less post their location on Tnet.

All good brother! I was just curious. Sorry for any confusion or derailment of your thread.

Just to be clear, a lot of people are commenting on having a poster state or at least have their location in their BIO, right ? But just because you have a location in your BIO doesn't mean that this is where the item was found,
IDK, but for me personally.. if someone says ROMAN, I automatically think EUROPE somewhere... OR UK.. because a Roman coin of any kind can show up in many places across Europe... or Africa or maybe Asia so personally I never thought it was that big of a deal to pinpoint the exact location where a Roman coin was found, I just know it was found in Europe somewhere... Just like American coins... Knowing the "Location" it was found doesn't really do anything for me ... because they can be found anywhere in the US pretty much... It makes it more interesting if someone dug a Standing Liberty Quarter in CHINA, because that would be neat as shit !! but how does it affect the find ? I don't know..
just my 2 cents .... wondering why there is all this tail chasing .. 🤣

No that's the natural colour. Ketchup is a known and recommended cleaner of copper.
I did not know that. Going to give it a try just for the heck of it...

Not really tail chasing.

Maybe for you it is. Was just asking a question where it was found. All good though.

God forbid someone asks a question about something around here.

I wasn't trying to be critical, ok to ask questions, just for me it never seemed to be something I personally thought about asking.. no offense intended.
