🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Æ Dupondius

Came up in a sorry old state. It's had a couple of days soaking in Tomato ketchup which has done quote a decent job really. At least now there is clearly an Emperor on the obverse. The reverse is blank though unfortunately.
Anyone know who that Emperor is. I'm thinking Trajan or Hadrian wjich means it's probably neither.

It was found in Lancashire, England. How that helps you identify it though is a mystery to me.

No that's the natural colour. Ketchup is a known and recommended cleaner of copper.

Maybe it's not copper per Post #3 possibly. But glad it helped clean it up some for ya.

Ketchup contains fairly mild, organic acids. It's the acid which attacks the corrosion and, if strong enough or left in long enough, continues attacking the base metal beneath the corrosion. That's why care is needed in using this method. I have used Coke and lemon juice for the same purpose. It often leaves the coin with the base metal showing. It's a good method sometimes for getting identifiable details from a coin but should not be used on any coin that might have some monetary value.

I'm with you and I have had a similar moan at others in the past but to be fair a Dupondius is a Dupondius no matter where it's found. If you where sad enough to check out any threads I've started since joining you'll find the vast majority I do state where I'm at, I just didn't think it mattered over this one though.✌️

The Æ refers to bronze. Dupondius where made from copper, brass, bronze alloys.

It’s funny, I’m on a forum for old bicycles. All the members put their location in their bio and it’s not even a rule. I think treasure hunters must be a bit more paranoid!😜 Only half or less post their location on Tnet.

Just to be clear, a lot of people are commenting on having a poster state or at least have their location in their BIO, right ? But just because you have a location in your BIO doesn't mean that this is where the item was found,
IDK, but for me personally.. if someone says ROMAN, I automatically think EUROPE somewhere... OR UK.. because a Roman coin of any kind can show up in many places across Europe... or Africa or maybe Asia so personally I never thought it was that big of a deal to pinpoint the exact location where a Roman coin was found, I just know it was found in Europe somewhere... Just like American coins... Knowing the "Location" it was found doesn't really do anything for me ... because they can be found anywhere in the US pretty much... It makes it more interesting if someone dug a Standing Liberty Quarter in CHINA, because that would be neat as shit !! but how does it affect the find ? I don't know..
