My son and I have been traveling across country the last few days. Yesterday we stopped at Cabellas in Sydney, Nebraska (their "World Headquarters" store) We were there at 8 am when they unlocked the doors to open. We each got a 525-count box of 22lr's but we could only purchase one box each of rimfire ammo. Then we could each only buy 5 boxes total of any ammo so we got some 223's and some 9mm along with the 22's. We wanted to get some powder for reloading but they only had one type that we use on hand that day and they had a 2-pound limit on powder of each type you bought. Then I needed some primers but they only had small magnum pistol primers so I got a box of those. We were there for maybe 1-1/2 hrs and before we left, what appeared to be about 40 boxes of 22lr's, were all gone. Except for rimfire ammo, everything else was available in large quantities but you were limited to 5 boxes total. I think if you bought a box of "bulk" ammo you may be limited to one; I'm not sure. According to the clerk, availability of ammo, primers and powder changed daily. At least it was nice seeing some calibers on the shelves in large quantities that have all but disappeared on local shelves in California.

Packer, How were the prices?

Hopefully, now that the political grandstanding is slowing down a little - ammo and firearms will get more realistic packerbacker!

Wally world in the SE is starting to get 9mm in regularly. In some stores it lasts thru the weekend. Cabelas is starting to have some available for online order.

The prices weren't bad at all.....not anything as gouging as the gun show prices. The brick of 22 Remington was under 30 bucks.

The problem is that people take politicians WAAA-AY too seriously. :occasion18:

Good to hear.. I hope all of these people that bought it up and tried to take advantage of their fellow sportsman and gun owners by charging outragous prices get screwed.. It was really a shame to see people act like that.. I understand that supply and demand is the driving force behind the price hike.. I just thought that it got way out of hand and the price gouging was ridiculous.. Glad to hear ammo is making it back to the shelf.. So people can get it for a fair price..

I consider that gouging. I'm not going to pay that much for it, especially not for Remington. I've had really bad luck with Remington ammo, both 30-06 and .22 long rifle.

I'm going to suggest to my husband Cabelas. He has been camping out on Mon,Wed,and Friday mornings at Academy Sports and come up short, even being # 1 in line.

Try Walmart.

The Walmart iPhone app allows you to check stocking without going into the zoo.

Thanks panache,good to know.

Maybe I need to get another Nerf or squirt gun to keep up with times!!!

Got plenty water, but Nerf rounds are pretty limited....

Darned!

Soon water will be to expensive to use as ammo. They will tax it until the supply evaporates! :laughing7:

I checked the slips and the 22's were $23.99 for 525 rounds. Got steel case 762 x 39 for $6.99 for 20 rounds and got some 223 and other stuff. Some reloading powders and primers are difficult to find around here so we picked up 6 lbs of various powders and 4,000 primers along with a few other things. 9mm's were difficult to find but I already have a good inventory on those plus I can reload all I want so that's not a problem. 30-round mags for the AR's were on sale for about $13 but we can't have those here. :)

A new store opened up near here this weekend.

They had plenty ammo of all types - according to friends who went.

Now, how do THEY have plenty ammo......

And I've heard of other stores opening with plenty - where the more established local ones have almost nothing....

According to some of the guys, they were selling 330 rounds of 22LR's for almost $40.....

$40 for 330 rounds of 22's is gouging in my book. Cabellas had the 525 round boxes for $23.99 but you were only allowed one box per customer. Don't matter to me as I have been buying 22's for a long time and have many thousands of rounds accumulated even though I shoot some once in a while I was still buying more than we were shooting.

Yep, gouging....

I read another article recently that said when 22LR's came readily available again, they'd be over $50 per 525....

Profit hogging, or something more nefarious......
