A Hypothetical...

Okay, I'll be serious.

Unless I thought that there may be a loved one in the vicinity of the gunshots I wouldn't be looking for the source and I would be totally unaware of the money, drugs or dead. With no visual evidence from the street I would continue on my way, the mere sound of gunfire does not cause me to call the police (yes, even in a building. I shoot indoors a couple times per week).

Lets just say my last work day would follow very shortly after and I would shortly after become a permanent resident of a south pacific island or possible resident of a nice asian country where lots of gold is found..... ;D

Crack Badger, would have a new hunting partner..... :laughing9:

I'd go and buy some beer and if when I came back nothing had changed, I'd sniff the lot :laughing9:

Oh, and take the money!

Well, you have me rethinking this. Under the scenario I would do the same thing, but report shots fired to the police. I wouldn't look for the source because bringing 2 fists to a gunfight is not a bright idea. Unless there were a phone booth where I could change into my secret identity, then I might give it a look see.

Drug money is dirty money! I would have to do my duty. Take it home and laundry it. Then of course I would have to put it back in circulation to help the economy!

I am really enjoying the answers on this thread. :icon_thumleft:

So let me ask you this, would any of you feel like a thief for taking the money?

Do we feel its ok to steal money from bad people, especially if we feel that money was stolen or acquired through illegal activity in the first place?

Or do you not consider it stealing at all?

"Dead bad People" If your speaking
of the original post. :D

reuse money that was stolen or acquired through illegal activity,
to Invent new ways to arrest people & they Have no
Concience about it so .... ? :dontknow:

Don't get too comfortable with the answers, I charge by the word :laughing7:

Being a thinking person, I would use a little logic to make it OK to take the money, no matter where the money came from. As I entered the scene I would ask if anyone needs help, and no one replies, my conversation and questioning will continue as follows

Me: Wow, that's a lot of money and drugs just laying there
Them:
Me: I see you have those bills nicely packed, did it take you long to count and package?
Them:
Me: How much money is there, it looks like a great amount
Them
Me: You know this is not the best of areas to leave that money laying around
Them:
Me: I tell you what, if no one objects, I'll take this money and put it in a safe place.
Them:
Me: OK, see you guys later, nice doing business and thanks
Them

Me: (Just a trail of dust left behind)

Note: With no objection being raised during my questioning I believed that we were all on the same page, so this is far from stealing :P

This is clearly the correct answer. :laughing9:

You hear gunfire ... dial 911 from down the street.
Trust me, the police run toward the action; you on the other hand, are not the police. That's the fastest way to end up dead.

Wow, you really are a wishful thinker. ;D ;D

In the late 80's, I walked into a hotel room, door open, screen door closed, where the person I was supposed to meet was lying face-down, dead, with his pants pulled down to his knees. In the crack of his butt was a roll of $$. What freaked me out the most was when I realized that there were no flies buzzing around. Had to of just happened. This happened around June, July. True story. There was more money lying around, but for some reason I didn't bother to collect any. Happened in Miami, 1986 or 1987. Got on a plane and flew home, slamming Crown Royal the whole way.

Ole' buddy of mine and myself got into quite a debate over this, and I just wanted to find out what you folks thought.

That was an entertaining and interesting post and I hope you have more like that for us to enjoy.

BTY, while you were debating this topic with your buddy, was there any drinking involved :dontknow: I was curious to see if there was a tie in between this and Windharvesters story about the New Mexico man set on fire after losing a bet. :laughing7:

Actually , Want an Honest answer ?

Follow me till you see me
enter a Deserted street.

Run into the building quickly.

Lay a large amount of cash On a table,
preferably more than half a million,
and a large pile of cocaine wrapped in blocks.

Shoot 5 people & Run.
or just fire in the Air. & Leave

Come back in an Hour.

You can keep the cocaine though.
I'm not Greedy.

Actually in retrospect, I would probably do the most rational thing.

As soon as I heard the gunshots coming from the abandoned building, I would rush in to see what was happening. Then after discovering the scene before me, I would take the cash, drugs, and at least a couple of the guns.

I would then go to the nearest bar and start buying everybody drinks and generally throwing the money around. After getting drunk, I would go to a rough part of town and try selling the cocaine on the street to raise more money. I would let everyone see the guns I had, so they would think I'm a gangster.

What could go wrong ?

That's what the guy with the burnt up leg would do... :laughing7:

Change the scenery around a little bit. Instead of guns, you see blades/arrows. Instead of fresh bodies, you see skeletons with random bits of clothing, instead of paper money, you see gold/silver bars/coins...

Somehow, the only real factor in either scenario is TIME:

A battle that just happened- call the cops.

A battle that happened 300 or 400 years ago- call your Rolls-Royce dealer!

No drinking on this occassion. :icon_pirat:

We were just trying to find circumstances were we might keep "found money" without reporting it to anyone. He said he would still call the police under my hypothetical. "The money isn't mine so I'm not going to take it." was his opinion.

Me, I told him I'd likely take the bills and make an anonymous call to the police from a pay phone so they could get the drugs and the bodies. I'd then have to pray those bills weren't marked. :o

The only thing I would find amazing in your scenario is finding a payphone. Honestly, I haven't seen them around like years ago. :icon_scratch: Which reminded of Chelsea, MA in the early to mid 80's the police had the telephone company remove just about every outdoor pay phone that was used by drug dealers.

no brainer on my part -- first make sure no one left alive --then make sure no cameras / witness about -- get the cash and get gone -- get my passportand head out to a country with non extradition status with the usa --
