My Dad passed away yesterday at the age of 80, He was raised on a farm
during the 30's and 40's He never got into Treasure Hunting with me
until the last 4 months of his life, I got to take him one time and I think
that he really enjoyed it. I know that he loved anything to do with the outdoors
and he was fascinated by the relic's that I got to show him.
He was the Valedictorian of his class, And joined the Navy right out of High School
Where he became a Cryptologist. He followed in the steps of his to brothers,
one was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th 1941 had a Fleet Carrier (the Franklin) sunk
out from under him and was at Tokyo Bay aboard the Might Mo (USS Missouri)
during the Japanese surrender.
Dad suffered the lose of two sons as well. Dad wasn't a Great man nor famous but
He was my HERO........Calm Sea's and Fair wind's Pop...............

P.S.
I'm not sure why I felt the need to post this as it has nothing to do with T-Net
except that I wanted someone to know that a Good Man left this world yesterday

Very sorry to hear about your dad passing. Your words brought a tear to my eye. Sometimes telling a total stranger or strangers is a good way for you to get a few words and thoughts off your chest. Nothing wrong with you sharing this with us. Nothing wrong at all .

Sounds like he totally would have enjoyed metal detecting as a full time hobby. Did he find anything? Time heals all... Art

Sorry for your loss. Touching story.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is perfectly OK to mention it here and it's nice he got out with you for at least one hunt. I know how special that is. I lost my Dad 3 years ago as well. My prayers are with you and your family.

I know exactly how you feel. Lost mine just 2 years ago. He made it to 91 but he might as well hadn't, he didn't know who he was or where when he passed, let alone me. He stormed the beach at Normandy.

Count the blessings you had with him. They are many. Also, try to remember how he would want you to feel. It's not much help, I know, but try to keep that in mind as you go through the transition.

He'll be with you on ALL your hunts now.

Thanks for sharing and for your father's service.

He will be looking over your shoulder as you kneel to dig your next find. May God Bless.

Happy Hunting!

sorry for your loss gunrunner. unfortunately, everyone passes away at some time. to be remembered fondly shows that he was a good man. my Dad passed away 10 years ago on the morning of my 40th birthday. I miss him a lot and think of him practically every day.

It was a very dark day in my life when my Dad died suddenly at age 66 GR. Every day that passes, I think of him or something he said. You have my sympathy. HH, Quindy.

Dads are special and heroes! I am sorry for your loss, I critter hunt with my dad =a Vietnam vet- enjoys my treasure, I enjoy the treasure of a dad. We were not as close as my son and I -currently serving in Afghanistan- but the older I get the wiser I become. Sounds like he lived his life, we all should learn to live life' Thanks to him we are able. "Heaven has no rough seas"

A fitting tribute by a honorable son, may his soul be at peace and his family be comforted by those around them.

Gunrunner, tears filled my eyes as I read your post. Memories of the great times I had with my dad came flooding back, thank you for that. It is a wonderful tribute to your dad and in a way to all dads. My condolences to you and your family, you have my heartfelt sympathy.

Greatness is measured by those that matter to the person. So he was a GREAT man ! He influenced you , and I am sure you influenced him.
I am glad that you had the chance to share your treasure hunts near the end. I am certain that he held those memories dear to him , and you will never forget them.

Immense condolences for your loss , but also immense joy for your memories! Godspeed to your great man !

The world is minus a truly great man. I am glad that I had the chance to meet him if only for a short time. If you need anything just call and let us know!
