Well, my first year of detecting is coming to end soon and I haven't found a bunch of items on my wishlist. However, today I unexpectingly got my first Draped Bust LC on a high school soccer field of all places. Nothing like finding firsts! It was about 4 inches down right on the side line of the soccer field. And wouldn't you know it, I scratched it. I haven't scratched a coin in months. Luckily it scraped off patina and not into the copper. I loved the patina but the scrape looked bad. So I gave it a lemon juice bath and the scratch isn't on the surface. However, it looked so much better with the patina. Oh well, still a sweet wishlist find.

Other then that I got a $3.35 gas rebate in clad. I did leave several deep signals which I couldn't find. Hopefull, Santa will be bringing me that probe I want.

Congrats on a great find on your wishlist! I think all of us have things on our wishlist that have to wait but then again, that keeps us going out and finding the gas rebates, eh? We gotta have dreams!! ;D That LC would be a dream for many of us! Congrats!

if you live on the east coast, these things sometimes pop up when you least expect them! i have found three in modern school yards (not as old as yours though!) very nice find!

How ironic! Thats the same exact large cent I have! I still have mine! But Someone must have done there project on coins and have dropped it! :) Unless the school dates back to the early 1800's. But I am pretty sure some senior dropped it by accident. Anyways nice find!

Ouch!!!!! X2!!!! Once on the scratch......and then again on the lemon juice bath. :BangHead: :BangHead: Great coin though. Congrats on your first draped bust.

Soccer field today, old homesite 150 years ago. That would be a surprise. WTG on those :icon_sunny:

very nice finds. best of luck.

:icon_scratch:

i don't think it should have been cleaned....

Congrats on your first Draped Bust, that's a good one. You see so many blanks without a date, yours is very nice WTG

i just saw you got the chalk line thought the grass in one of your pictures........ ::)

Nice coin!

I would highly recommend a different cleaning solution in the future. I've found that hot peroxide works incredibly well on old coppers, Indian Heads, wheats, etc., and isn't very harsh at all. That lemon juice you used is awfully acidic to be used on something like that LC. I think you'll find the peroxide cleans it but removes much less patina than what you see with yours. Search the forum for the instructions or PM me and I'll be happy to tell you more.

Congrats and happy hunting!

Cheers,
Brendan

Sweet find!!! Sadly around here Large Cents are almost non existant... :'( I have only heard of 2 found around Chicago (surrounding counties) this year...

I think you learned your lesson with the lemon juice so i'm not going to harp on you about it. Draped Bust Largies are one of my favorites. You are in a nice location. I hope your next is a Liberty Cap.

Cool beans dude, righteous finds!

Two lessons learned. I'm sure your next Draped Bust will be recovered and cleaned properly.
