Great article but i have a question:

Coin experts believe that Samuel Brown, an employee of The United States Mint in Philadelphia, secretly created the five coins in 1913. The Liberty Head nickel was minted from 1883 to 1912, but was replaced by the Indian Head or "Buffalo" piece.

Whats the difference between this and those gold coins leaked out of the mint into private hands that the mint/gov seized from the owners? I think Gypsy posted the story about them awhile back.

Sounds like double standards here in action to me.

Tks for the reply SWR, but now ya got me totally confused.

OK if those nickels were not shown on the US mint records, then they must be counterfits, no difference then if i went out and designed and made 5 what evers quarters, dimes or nickels, except mine would not have been possibly made at the us mint.

Are they so valued since it is "possible " he made them while working at the us mint and then took them out, more for historic value then numeristic value?

I really don`t understand.

Jim,
I doubt it. I'm going to wait for a $5 million $ nickel. :-)
Unreal, huh.
