$900 dollar question

I have a 93 Whites Eagle Spectrum. I've pulled it out of mothballs after a 7 year layoff. I'm getting back in the saddle again and have been looking at new detectors to see what's out there.

My Spectrum seems to do a good job. At the time it was Whites top of the line. My question is, does the latest Whites top of the line DFX perform $900 dollars better? Is it that much deeper? Does it discrimainate that much better.

I'd like to buy a water machine and have two detectors but has technolgy changed enough for me to spend the money to upgrade my land machine?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Not really, it still depends on knowing your machine and the location you choose to hunt. Give that old whites some running time and post what you find.

I have been using a Garret Ace 250, and Ive found it doesn't pinpoint very well, and the descrim is kind of weird.
I have also been around a Tessoro Cibola that seemed to preform VERY well in trashy spots under high descrim.
I'm pretty sure it may be my next detector. Dont get me wrong the Ace 250 is a killer machine for $200 but the Cibola just
found some of the best stuff I've ever been privy to, and at $500 it's a killer machine, and lighter than the 250.

I have a DFX and a classic ID. The DFX has great pinpointing and depth scan, but the classic ID is just as good, if not better, as far as target ID.

You have a detector that is just about as good as todays ,so I would say save your money! ;) vThe old spectrums were hard to beat If you knew how to use them.HH

Dano,, I know kellyco are selling detectors way cheaper than anywere eles,, infact iam going to that place when iam in florida, as we come far better off here from the uk on the exchange rate,,, here it costs ?500, for a terra x 50, kellyco are selling them for $500,, so i get it for ?273,, is that a saving or what,, kellyco is your best option my friend,, this applies to all machines way down in price,, the cibola is an excellent machine for the money, its now the trident 1,, and the vaquero is now the trident ll even better,, but if your looking at the mid range machines go for the x terra 50, fantastic machine check it out at minelab,.

dhannis dude,, machines are pretty much still the same in a way,, the spectrum, is still being used in a big way, no need to spend any more money you have a good machine there, use it,,

I've never found them the cheapest and your not going to get the price you quote because you have to add the 'free' accessories. Then your going to have to scrap the box and dirty up the machine in the hope it will pass for used to reduce the import duty and V.A.T. Also when you have bought your Minelab, Tesoro etc your not going to have a U.K. warranty. Then theres the question of future upgrades....the U.K.Tejon is far more suitable for our conditions with its expanded discrimination range but they won't modify the grey imports from the States.
I do import the odd machine but only because Nautilus/Wilson/Discovery are no longer sold here. For the major brands you have to ask if its worth it and grey imports don't make the money on re sale or trade in.
Re the old Spectrum I love it (better than my present XLT and the DFX). What might sway me towards the DFX is if I wanted to detect the wet sand where twin/multifrequency does rule over one. Keep the Spectrum and treat yourself to the water machine you fancy.

Thanks for everyones input. I think I'll keep my current machine and buy something I can get wet. So, now I need to research some more.

Happy Thanksgiving

uk brian,, the accessories are in on that price trust me ive checked it all out allready,, iam there in 3 weeks straight in and a purchase made,, i aint worried about the uk warrenty,,, minelabs are solid workers,, very rarely do they break down,, and if it did id just buy another,, infact iam buying a few as some pals here want one but want pay the uk ?500,, as its a little steep for them,, ive been on to kellyco and the price stands at that money, if they do decide to mess me about i'll go eleswhere,, like crawfords, i know craig will knock plenty off for 3-4 purchases, so at the worst i'll go to tampa and get some real bargains,, this exchange rate really does save the ??????sssssss. HH Paul.

Freebies are nice, but you have to watch it, many from Kellyco are just junk! Last detector I ordered I told them to keep the freebies and send me something I could use such as a coil......and they did! Monty

yer to right monty i'll be there in person and i want a class machine the freebie shit they can keep,,, i want coils too, lol, hh paul
