Yesterday my hunting pard. and I hit a small surf beach. The finds were few and far between,BUT I did manage 2 gold. Both were diamond rings (18k) diamonds are not common for this area of Spain. The 1ct ring is English hallmarked-London,18k, date letter is a lower case ( t ) which is 1918 in my book. weight is 9.6 grams. The second ring is a 1/2 ct marked 750 wit a weight of 3.1 grams. Out of the 62 gold this trip (142 for the year) I only had 1 other diamond and it was small. The big stone measures 6.5mm which is 1ct. I have had a very good year and will be going back to Missouri on the 18th of this month. After trading in my peseta,s for Euros I had about 700 all totaled ($1050) Total weight of my gold is aprox. 186 grams or about 6oz. Thanks for looking.

Hi everyone:

I have a couple of changes to the original post. 1. The date letter was wrong. I was looking at the hallmark site on the net and I guess I was looking at the date letters for Birmingham, instead of London. The correct date is 1974. I had the ring appraised today and the jeweler appraised it at $8000.00. The diamond is really high quality. I about fell over when he told me the value. Thanks for looking.

wtg glad to hear you and wayne are getting the shiney stuff, thanks again for the hospitality and the tee-shirts and for letting my little girl run around your casa. maybe i should get myself a cz, any going? all the best seth (friend of 's').

HI Seth:

You are welcome. We could work something out for a CZ. The iron is really getting to be a problem. Several of the beaches have iron targets everwhere?????????? Why, I don't know. We will be back in Spain right after Christmas.WE will see you,all later on in the year. Give Olivia a kiss for Judy and I.

Nice couple of rings, but that ring looks too modern to be 1918. Diamond rings in that style were not that common in 1918. On top of that, it looks like a brilliant cut on the diamond (although its hard to be positive from that picture), and the brilliant cut was not even invented until 1919. They re-use the hallmarks in 20-year cycles, so maybe its a newer date?

Sweet finds regardless.

The date letter is a Hooked t with a shield border. 1918 is the only year with this type of t. The diamond "is" a European cut or old miners cut.

Hi Dale:

It sounds like someone needed a detector to me. I have been hunting in Spain for 15 years and have never had any problems. As I understand the detecting laws in Spain, The only places that are off limits are areas surrounding arci. sites and historical sites. Some places do have local ordanances prohibiting detecting, but these are usually posted (on beaches) and I only know of 2 that I can think of. Thanks for the comment.
