out with hogge yesterday went to a spot we thought had a hole to dig but what looked like a hole in the winter well it wasnt all that walking for nothing.so we took a ride up the mountain to much snow still,so hogge asked if i wanted to go to the button field,a place we have hit a number of times, i said sure but i only have a couple hours and i got to go.well its a good thing we went there, after twenty mins,i got a one way hit,so i started digging after digging a one foot deep hole and two feet wide,i still had nothing, but it was beeping,i was loosing hope and started detecting in a different area of the field.almost gave up,after 10 mines i found myself over the grater i had dug ,as i stared into the hole i thought theres something in there, and with one more shovel full it was on the surface i didnt even know what i had ,but it said 1818 was heavy and was silver,so i called hogge over and he said it was an 8 reale, spanish silver.first coin of the year, you gotta luv that

Here are the new pics. This coin is 100% solid silver! We are taking it to a jeweler to have it weighed. The scale we used may be slightly off. I also see something in the coin, under magnification, but want it to be confirmed before I say anything. Tony Carlotto will examine this on Tues. (Things are not quite what they appear to be) :laughing7:  (att; Constantinivas)

You gotta give the viewers some perspective. Show another pic next to something recognizable for scale. That will definately help us appreciate this find.

Words don't do it justice. I know what it looks like but some people on here haven't seen one of these coins before. It's fun to see it in relation to another coin.

My big 8 excitement came in 2000 I believe. It certainly is a nice chunk of silver compared to the oldies we're used to finding.

I never held one in my hand til yesterday. Quite impressive. Especially when you think of how much this was really worth back then. Alot of these were "quartered". That's why, alot of times, you only see pieces of an 8 Real. I have a 1 and a 1/2 real myself. I have sent pics and a story to the C-4 website. I will keep you informed as to what the experts say. Hogge

I know nothing so, I'm not going to fill the thread with false misleading information... :dontknow: :icon_scratch:

Cool find !! :icon_thumleft: :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! :D ;D

Been doing alot of talking with guys on the C-4 site today. This coin is a contemporary counterfeit. Even more interesting to these guys is that it was found in the US, as most of these "high grade" counterfeits were made in Europe. Being this type of counterfeit is actually better than the real thing, as regards to monetary worth. We actually have one guy that is interested in it all ready, although price has not been discussed as of yet, he has made it clear he wants it! Pretty Kool. Well I guess that is that. Hogge

That must have been breathtaking!

Persistence pays off handsomely! That's nice silver. :icon_thumright:

:hello:Hi Rich, NICE PIECE CONGRATS to you -I wish I was with you guys when you pulled this one out!
