Not even close.
I have a very good relationship with quite a few law enforcement folks of various kinds, and I can tell you that they're professionals that are rigorously SELECTED AND TRAINED; in fact their training never ceases. I've trained with them and I can tell you that despite my life long association and proficiency with firearms, I am NOWHERE near as good as these guys.
Law enforcement is many times more professional than they were a couple of decades ago; it's a necessity, and made possible by better training.
I know a lot of guys that shoot, but none of them are as good as the LEOs that I know. And many are a lot less than good.
So, while we may have a lot of guns on the street, not many of these will be trained much if at all. I don't have a good feeling about that. And if you don't agree, please re-read this post.
One thing I've learned a long time ago is that with firearms goes humility. It's a lot safer that way.
