60 buttons in one hole!!!! Flying eagle &IHP spill.then a 2 cent piece, 1818 large ce

First group of photos are the spill. Crazy just pulling handfuls of flat buttons out of the ground. The Artillery button is my favorite. The spill was the last hole of the day took about 20 minutes to get them all. Not sure if someone hid them or lost them? I was probably 50’ away from the cellar hole on another elevated part of the property parallel with the old wagon trail.

I know it doesnt qualify as banner but thats a banner hunt in my book flying Eagles a tribe of Indians button spill looks like you dug up someones collection from years of detecting lol just wanted to add that........

Haha! That would be funny some old timer out there seeding old cellar holes....

Great find on the buttons. I would have been ecstatic to find all those. Just wondering how they ended up there is neat to think about. Congrats.

I really love finds like this because there is definitely a reason why and so many possibilities to how they ended up together in one hole. Did someone have an emergency and have to scramble back to the house in the middle of repairing clothes. Or were they loading the wagon and these spilled out? Did a kid hide them there? Who knows but it is fun to think about.....

Amazing. I found something very similar in my town a few years ago. Unfortunately they were mixed and 90% ceramic or otherwise. Not nearly as old. Probably early 1900s. Maybe late 1800s.

But fun to dig. There's probably still some there. I got tired of digging.

Looks like some dude back in the day went completely over the top bedazzling a pair of his underwear. That's my guess. Must have taken him forever to sew them all on there.

Way cool! Today I learned what a Flying Eagle was. Great find :)
