Fantastic job Joe, these a exactly what I was dreaming of.

I've just received new shafts from Anderson, the Scuba one and the over under one. Looking for a push button with light :

Latching ON / OFF push button, it requires external power (need to find it on the excal board, not far from the ON potentiometer I suppose.

These are from APM, they propose me to simply test them to see if then can reach 200ft depth (at least).

That's funny Bill!

FM, I like the latching, on / off.. you could run a 4 cable wire to the heyco, two to the remote PP then the two others to the power ..

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Excalibur But Were Afraid to Ask

Just ask OBN....

Let me show you a study case:

Gold Napoleon coins 1840, hammed in a forest with a basic ACE250.
Value of the coins is around $2K each.

You may have the most powerfull detector, if you have nothing under it, no chance to to digg something!!! :laughing7:

Having a high end detector is only for comfort, hunt areas with difficult terrain and have the pleasure to gear a great machine. I've seen incredible finds hammed with $300USD detectors...

sorry, but these gold Napoleon coins are very common, and are worth more like $200 each (or less), not $2000 each

50 Francs Gold napolean are between 750€ and 1200€, which is almost $1000 to $1500 each; your right sorry. Commun is not the right term, you're always happy to find some while hunting
I'm not a specialist on coin value as I don't resell them. This reply was just to illustrate the fact that you can find "great stuff" without having a high end detector. :notworthy:

CTX-3030 is only rated to 10 foot depth

you are right, there is good stuff out there congrats with your finds :)

however these are not 50 franc coins you are holding in your hand

frogmaster,
At post 38 you asked how can the coin be authenticated.
ANACS will grade your coin. You may wish to start here:

Don.......

Yes thanks for the reply. It appears that you wand me to send it to US..... not a good idear.
My "ego" don't makes me idiot, you are not aware of archeological legislation in here... :exclamation:

Authenticated or not, the coin is a beauty and is "similar" to those we found inland in this region.

You can always enjoy it, it won't makes any difference!

Frogmaster, I congratulate you on a great find. That gold coin is a wonderful specimen!

Many people here in this country have forgotten that two Frenchmen, Émile Gagnan, and Jacques-Yves Cousteau, invented the diving regulator, and that became the basis for modern SCUBA diving as we enjoy today. France is the Motherland of diving!

You guys know what you are doing underwater, and your finds are an example of your expertise. I also like where you are going with the Excal. Much respect, sir!

Hi Higgy,

Your are absolutly right, and most of my diving equipment and especially the regulators are from Aqua Lung/La Spirotechnique which are almost the same since 75 years now, thanks for reminding it:thumbsup:... I've learned (and still learn) deep diving techniques in Marseille which is considered in Europe as the Mecca of diving.

For those how are interested about the latest technique of "recreational deep diving" with Trimix and Rebreather, here's a good short video of my diving mates and myself.

Le Ghrib -95m (-308ft.), sunk in 1943.......................Le Maréchal Canrobert -120m (-394ft.) sunk in 1892 ...........................Le Protée -127m (-416ft.) sunk in 1944

Frogmaster,

Great video and thanks for sharing.....do you have a decompression chamber on the boat in case someone has to come up in a hurry?

The boat is "really small" no.. :laughing7: but we have 4 hospitals about 4/10 minutes by helicopter with decompression chamber and surgery compatible with Hyperoxic trimix dives (compress Air can killes you). We don't dive with AIR, we dive with Nitrox 32% and TRimix (mix of Helium) We do have Pure oxygenes bottles with us as backup that will be used till the coast guard helicopter will bring you up. I haven't tried up to now.... and not really want to try :laughing9:

But "come up in hurry" from -400Ft. is not a good idea, it's impossible. Even if there is an emergency case, you will have to wait underwater; it's part of the trainning. For certain dives, when we stay 45/55 minutes at full depth, we can have over +5h of decompression stages to make!

frogmaster,

Glad you haven't had the misfortune of having a mishap.....people have to be very well trained and equipped for deep sea diving as you know.

On vacation many years ago in Barbados we met up with a deep sea diver from the UK....he spent the first week diving then started partying with us....rum and deep diving don't mix very well so he stopped his dives for the rest of the trip.

That was a beautiful diving video. Finding great coins is just icing on the cake. How many tanks did you have for that deep dive? I thought I counted 5 and guess 2 of them were emergency tanks. I've had to put off finishing my basic dive class for personal and health reasons, but hope to be able to get back into it later this year. I know I will never be able to achieve a deep dive like this myself, but just shallow dives would suit me fine. Thanks for sharing that video, it really made my day.
