500,000 years old :o Awesome !

Yeah most of the tools I am finding rite now are made like that. Detailed only on the edges. Very strange design on them but probably archaic period.

it blows me away to think that I (we all) came from peoples that could and did live like that. that at one time stone technology was global and you could have picked anyone of us up and dropped us down anywhere else and we would survive with our technology intact. then I think about the butt warmer in my car seat that I use when I drive or even just going to the fridge in the middle of the night for an orange crush (god i love that stuff), etc. etc. etc....I must admit I like being ME and living right now and that I am not some guy with a pointed stick chasing a wolly mammoth....or even a pointy stick with a rock attached on the end!

I really think they had their choices as to what animal they wanted to eat on any given day. I think the animals were every place they looked. Now days they are scarce due to hunting and cars hitting the animals. I dont believe they really had to search for their food that hard. Now days we would starve if we had to do the same as they did.

just based on birds and fish alone.....

Now of course winter states with snow would of been tough. But I believe that is the reason they moved so much looking for areas that didnt get so much snow. I bet around here was like heaven to them. Not much snow and rivers and creeks every place. I can go to any creek and find artifacts not far from them. I read where their was Indian homes all up and down the river here. 10s of thousands of them lived here. And yes I believe they farmed in allot of the same places we see farms today and probably chose the same places to live as we do today.

I know that is true on the coast

Ill show you some of the ones I have been finding. I have many more like these. Most are only worked on the edges. This will give you something to compare yours too. These arent your normal looking artifacts. I have to do some deep research on these types and hopefully come up with a answer for myself.

I am a little skeptical of "types"...sure, sure many points exhibit classic details of this one or that one...with variation blah or blah or blah....but so many of the things I have found defy the "classic" profile of a "Gatecliff" or a "Merrybell" or a "Wasco" or a "Rabbit Island" or a Wallula".

but i do appreciate anything worked by human hands, be it a gem point Clovis or a one off scraper.

I posted a thread you might enjoy looking up and printing out to read or keep. You will have to google it. I printed out a copy it is about 10 pages long. Looks to be interesting.

Funny thing is that I'm sure they will say the same thing about us and how we live 500,000 years from now!

yeah I know...and the stuff they will get wrong too.... I remember years ago a conversation with an archaeology professor I had, while I don't remember it exactly one thing I do remember is he was saying that most of our cities are laid out due north/south and that someone like him who would study the ruins would easily be mislead as to the significance of that. He had other examples too, but the gist of what he was saying was, first and formost...think practical...why would someone do that, make that, use that.... before you start to add religion or belief into the equation.

got it thanks

Neat find ,in southern md , the N.A. made thier arrowheads out of a white quartz,it amazes me what a pratical and ingenious people they are .
