I ventured out to the small island on the lake we've been staying at after sweeping over most of the property several times. I was joined by my younger brother who showed his first interest in metal detecting, turns out he is one hell of a good luck charm. After explaining the basics of how things work we headed down a rough trail and came across a nice clean sounding tone in the high 80s. About 4 inches down out pops a large copper, my heart is pounding. Cleans up and turns out to be an 1818 large cent! My first large cent and oldest founf coin to date. I'm explaining to my brother how awesome this find is trying not to sound too overly excited when the coil picks up on a high scratchy signal that was rather jumpy. I call a bottle cap and dig in. We pull the plug out and I spy the top of what I thought then was a belt buckle. I pull it out and realise it is an old rotted coin purse and there are multiple slvers inside! Total finds found within the purse were a 1907 D barber half, 1912 S & 1907 0 barber dimes, and 1908, 1903, 1889, 1903 indian head cents! Two of the cents had fallen out the bottom and are in much rougher shape than what was in the pouch, which those in it in great shape! I don't ever expect to top this dig but day 4 is going to be spent on the island, hope I can fall asleep tonight!

Congratulations on the fantastic finds! That lost purse is awesome, it contained some very nice coins.

Congrats on the "purse o Barbers" .That is a great recovery there .Well done!

BAM!! now that's a heck of a hunt!, small cache/coin purse, freakin awesome, congrats on a great day swinging!, and on your oldest coin to date, that half is GREAT!

you wont forget this hunt for a LONG time!

Amazing finds. If I found those I would still be jumping up and down.

I just forced myself to set them aside after fiddling with them for the past two hours.

Don't blame you one bit for spending some valued time with the awesome purse full of change, congrats! Good luck on tomorrows hunt.

Amazing dig, going to be hard for you to top that one. :hello2: I still dream of digging a treasure like yours. :notworthy:

Congrats on the wonderful finds and I would assume you are hooked now. It only gets better and I see you joining the 1700 club in no time. This is truly one of the greatest hobbies to have. That cache / coin purse is a find that doesn't happen very often and there are lots of detectorists who have yet to find one. So give yourself a pat on the back and try to get some sleep for your next outing. lol RC

That's awesome. Few of us will ever get a find like that. Congratulations

Yeah, I'm going back tomorrow but I can't ever expect to top today's hunt. If it makes you feel any better I had 2 silver finds last year.

ive only found 3 1700s coins and its unlike anything ive expected!

That is just an awesome story and great save. I doubt those coins would have ever found if ya hadn't been there for vacation!!! Man; all those coins look fantastic!!!!:wav::wav::wav:

If I saw that Barber Half pop out I would probably need to sit down for at least 15 miuntes!
Amazing recovery! The detail is just stunning! The LC and smaller Barbers make this an epic score! :notworthy:

It was still in the pouch when I pulled it out! I savored it as best I could and pulled the coins that had fallen out (the indian heads) that were still in the hole before opening the pouch up.

Like everyone said great hunt. I look forward to what else you may find.
Also welcome to t-net. Your luck has obviously changed
