Hope the pic is good enough. Pin has a โ€œCโ€ in the center. Back has a design but is wearing off. Any thoughts on origin? Site also produced a dropped, likely CSA .69 bullet and a dropped .36 round ball (pictured). Limestone County, Alabama.

Welcome to tnet. I think what you have is a type of slate or asbestos shingle fastener. I have seen them identified as such on this site and have also found them.
Hope I'm wrong but I think that's what it is. The "c" is just an illusion made by the way the shank is fastened.

Nice finds! :occasion14:

Man I hate those copper roofing nails. There's never just one.

Glad you asked there are many very knowledgable people on here. You would be surprised at all the things that get IDed

Welcome also from MI Tommy

yep hate them things.ring up like a coin

relic nut, thanks. I'd actually be surprised if that is what this is, though I am a novice. I will try to post a pic of the back, which has a design suggesting the item may have been gilded at one time and have had a different origin. Looks like too much time was put into this item to be a simple roofing nail or fastener. By the way, the end of the pin is squared off - does not come to a point.

Hey Bud, I hope I am wrong. Take some good pictures of the front and back with a coin in the picture for size reference and post it in the"what is it" forum and maybe we can get a positive ID. Hoping for the best.

Regardless, the .36 cal is a worthy find in anyone's day.

Welcome, and nicely done!
