$350 metal detector

Yes, ACE 250 is a good one for the money. Got mine off of Ebay for $212.50 with shipping included.
Well pleased with the performance and have to say it is pretty easy to use and quite accurate.
Goodluck and welcome to the hobby

im looking for opinions on what would be a good starter detector for $300.00 I'm new and know thing about detecting thank you for your time happy hunting

The Tesoro Cibola is about $340 and is extremely popular. It's very deep and like all Tesoros has an awesome resale value.

The Tesoro lifetime warrantee is the best in the world. Drop it in the lake and they fix it free.

The Ace 250 is a good machine for the price of $212.95 but it doesn't compare with Tesoro.

I just bought a Cibola. My only complaint with it is pinpointing. Maybe I am compairing it to much to my MXT. You can spend the 212.00 on a 250 and buy a pinpointer for another 40-100 dollars and have just about as much in it as the Cibola, but you wont have the lifetime warranty.

I was going to say Cibola but a couple others beat me to it ;D

Another alternative is the Silver uMax, which could leave you with some money for a separate pinpointer.

Remember, you basicilly get wnat you pay for. You can't beat the lifetime warranty. How long is Bounty Hunter's warranty?

I don't use the Cibola myself (I use the DeLeon) so I went to another forum to ask about the pinpointing problem lucky1777 mentioned above.

A couple guys responded and told me the pinpointing trouble comes into play in All-Metal mode...not the discrimination mode.

With Tesoro there's really no need to use the All-metal mode. The discrimination mode is super deep and pinpointing is easy and dead on.

Best,

My Tiger Shark has no pinpointing mode, and I can locate a coin so well that I can stick a 3/16" brass rod into the face of a dime. It's all about criss-crossing your target and looking for the center.

I still think the Silver uMax is a great choice for a budget detector. The Ace250 is a good machine, but I think the Silver will get a tad more depth.

these responses were pretty much what i expected i was about to plop down $800 on a Garrett 1500 but the dealer talked me out of it and told me to get an ace 250 to start with and learn to use it properly then with experience get a higher end one so thanks everyone for you opinion now whats a good pinpointer how about the one kellyco is pushing think its a V1 or something like that well happy hunting

I have an Automax Precision V2 pinpointer listed on ebay. For more info check the For Sale link on this forum.

I have a tracker IV. Pinpointing sucks witht the 8inch coil. But once u get the 4inch coi it is really easy. It should be less then $250. You have enough money for a pinpointer. It is a good little machine for the price. Nice way to learn how to use a metal detector! :) But if i researched it more i would of bought the ace 250 but i am happy with my Tracker IV.

I'm new here and happy to have found this site.

I'm thinking of buying a metal detector and had been just about convinced to get a Prizm II, but find no comments on this type. Should I be getting the Ace 250 instead? What are the differences? I will be 80 yrs old in a couple of months so I need something lightweight.

I don't know a lot about metal detecting, but I did have a White's Coinmaster 6000/Di that I purchased back in about 1984 or so. I had so much fun with it, didn't ever find anything spectacular with it, but quite a few coins, a few rings, etc. I went mostly to parks, ball fields, and old schoolhouses, etc. Used it until it conked out on me in the early 1990's. Then my husband died and I lost interest for awhile, but now my daughter is interested and we are going to hunt together.

I appreciate all the advice here. I wish I would have had it when I was treasure hunting before.

Shirl, If you are thinking of getting the Prizm2 I highly recomend you pay an extra $50 & buy the Prizm3. Whites used to have a $50 coupon you could download & print, look on their website. I own a Prizm3 & also have the Ace250 & the Prizm is almost half the weight & in my opinion is as good or better than the 250. I used my Prizm for a month before upgrading & found tons of coins & a few rings, my girl uses it now & does quite well with it. Good luck. ;D

heres the link for the $50 coupon, good til August 31st 2006

Mighty AP, thanks for the advice!! I do have the $50 coupon printed out and was planning to use it for Prizm II, but I will probably get the Prizm III. It's good to hear from someone who owns one. Makes one feel more confident about purchasing it.

After reading all the comments here, I realize how little I knew about all of it when I was treasure hunting. I probably could have been more successful if I would have had access to this site. I'm looking forward to hunting again and will probably have more questions.

Shirl, the only difference between the Prizm2 & 3 is that the 3 has a depth meter on it, something I like to have. I have a buddy who claims he doesnt look at the depth on his machine, I find it would be difficult to find stuff without knowing the approximate depth. A lot of people here love the Ace250 & are probably cringing that I am recomending a Prizm but bottom line, they are very good & capable detectors and much, much lighter weight than the Ace250. I also recomend you get a handheld pinpointer, TinyTec sells decent ones online for around $40, I'll try to find a link & post it here for you. Any Questions at all? This is the place to ask, so many freindly, inteligent people who love to help. (Im freindly but the jury is still out concerning my inteligence! lol) ;D
