Bruce came down this week to my check out my new place in South Carolina. We spent 30 minutes researching this place, swung for 3 minutes, first hit I got 1798 large cent :-) And she's really pretty, nice high grade and detailed!

A good days work, time to go get some beer....

And an oxygen tank for me....

Tomorrow maybe we'll spend at least 9 minutes there

That is one of the nicest dug large cents I have seen. The soil is very freindly to the coppers where you are hunting.

Beautiful Coin!!!!
Beautiful Coin!!!!
Beautiful Coin!!!!

1793 Penny
The most "expensive" penny is a rare one minted in 1793. Only four are known to exist today and their worth is estimated at more than $275,000. Source

That coin takes my breath away. Congratulations on an incredible find.

You are one lucky dude. Would have had to call and ambulance if I would have dug such a beautiful coin. Congrats.

Thanks all for the encouraging replies....our ten minutes there today wasn't as good, just a couple of flat buttons and a musket ball...

This site might be done for now (pretty small area to work), but I feel unbelivably lucky to hold this super old coin. I've dug other big peniies, seated, even a couple of foriegn 18th century coins in the past...but this one's special, 1798 big penny, like most of you probably, I've day dreamed about a coin like this from the first day I turned on the detector.

And yes, one thing I've found so far is the low country sand IS kind to copper, some of the large cents I dug in Ohio were so chewed up I almost wish I hadn't dug them....almost ;D

Take care all...hopefully new cool stuff to post soon

thats the nicest one i've seen on here! now i know what they are supposed to look like

awesome find! about how deep was this beauty? keep it up and HH

Oh WOW, DJ!!! :o What a sweet coin!!   :icon_king:

Someday I hope to find one of those...

Great to see you back!!! The good old "Finger of Fate" isn't showing up on your post & I really need to rub it!
