Spent my lunch break out in the farm woods again today. This was my 2nd hunt.
No ticks or snakes yet, but I ran into so many spider webs, I came out looking like a ball of cotton candy! :o
Yesterday I scored two old buttons, and today a few more cool finds. Pictured are part of the stream and some of the woods I am working through. There is no way to grid something this large, and with so many obstacles. I try to be thorough, but a lot of the targets are just plain luck!
My finds today were:
*A large decorative piece with an Eagle at the top. I'm assuming this is from an old wood stove?

* A squished 3-ringer bullet under a large root. (I'm glad I didn't give up)

*A small oval pin with three initials in the center. Looks like "HBC" to me. ***UPDATE- It is "WBC" not "HBC" like I first thought. Not that it matters. ;D
What do you think? Any idea how old this may be?

*A neat "Apple Pie Ridge - Pure Apple Cider Vinegar" bottle.

*Old Pepsi bottle. (1960's?)

*Asst'd unknown relics.

Have a great weekend Folks.

Not just the brush but the trash ...LOL
were you able to save the clock housing?
Quite a beautiful
piece of antiquity.

Good luck.

Looks like your on the right track , do you tend to stay by where the stream or gully is that i saw in the pic?

That's where I am concentrating on right now. There are numerous streams and creeks on this property. Some dry and some still active. Once I'm sure the snakes are gone, I will be working closer to the water areas.
Thanks,
MM

Cool, will look forward to seeing the brush ;)

Josh,
I posted it late last night. See what you think.
Thanks,

Old Dog,
That large cast iron piece was all I found on the clock. It really came out pretty nice I think.
Thanks,
MM

Hey MM
Nice civil digs there, I like the belt keeper, I would bet that a buckle would be near by.

Rebel,
You were exactly right with your ID of the belt keeper. I went to the Bentonville battlefield today with my son, and they had one in the display case.
I'll try to post a picture later.
I never did dig it out of the garbage. :'(
I learned my lesson now one throwing what I think is "junk" away. ;)
It was neat to see the same relics on display that I am finding on this farm property.
I'm learning.
Thanks,
MM

I forgot to mention it before, but it seems like I saw a cast-iron clock on Antiques Roadshow?
There ought to be info out there on them, maybe on the A.R. website.

I think they used to build mantelpieces out of old oak..

How much was it worth? Am I rich? ;D
Thanks Admiral.

Here's a link to the A.R. site--first clock item I found searching on cast-iron. You might want to check out Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing, sounds like they were making cast-iron clocks in the 1850's, although things like toys, coin banks, etc. were more widespread in the late 19th century.
I'm going to do a Ya Hu search on 'cast iron clock' next. This thing is intriguing..

Re: 2nd day in woods brings LARGE Eagle! - ***UPDATED PICTURES***

A'right, I give up. I went after various combinations of antique, cast, iron, eagle, clock, etc. for over an hour and wound up (when I was back in stovepipe-flange land) having something try to commandeer Internet Exploder. Had to reset the damn machine.

SO I HAVE ARBITRARILY DECIDED THAT IT WAS THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING ON AN OLD LOCOMOTIVE.

I think you should send a pic to Antiques Roadshow, rilly I do. Great item in any case..

Hilarious! ;D Thanks for trying though. I did a bunch of Google searches, and came up with zilch too. Maybe it's an extinct Eagle? ;)

Ummmm... Yea. I thought I had responded here also about the keeper... And I did'nt... :( I feel bad.

Thats cool though - you're in a great spot and will find more!

***Update on the large Eagle piece***
I sent in pictures and info to the "Ask Mark Parker" section of Western & Eastern Treasures magazine a few weeks ago to see if Mark could figure out what it was.
I received a reply back by mail today saying he was notified about this piece by a fellow TN member and had been working on trying to figure out what it was. He goes on to say he found no listing on it, but feels it is a late 19th or early 20th century clock piece.

"Thanks Mark for trying, and your quick response"
