TheMastermind,

Although your thread's title is based on a book, it gave me a thought that might be of great benefit to coin roll hunters. I will start a separate thread for this.

So, my girlfriend is a teller at a branch of my main pick-up bank that I rarely go to. This is the headquarters for the bank and the only branch that won't order coin for customers unless they have a business account.

So, I'd go there only once every few months just to pick up whatever CWR or loose halves they might have.

I've been schoolin' her on what to look for across all the denominations, and she said that she would call me or shoot me a text if anyone comes in with halves or big dollar coins.

Today I got the following picture and text from my girl:

"1943, mean anything to you?"

YESSSSSSSSSS!!! Finally got my own cherrypickin' teller!

Picked up a box of halves + $100 in CWR of halves + $40 in MWR of halves + $28 in loose halves yesterday. The CWR, MWR, and the loose halves were all skunks.

The box gave up four keepers, two 90%ers and two 40%ers:

1964 x 2
1966 x 2

Two boxes of halves this morning gave up three 40%ers between them:

1967
1968D
1969D

Nice slow and steady stacking. Do you dump your dimes in a machine? I do some dimes but if I step up the volume the machine always miscounts or breaks down - I usually loose money either way.

I do most of my dumping in bags. Every once in a while I will dump a box of dimes or $250 in halves through a machine, but usually that is if I run out of bags.

It used to be that the dump bank would supply the bags as well, but that stopped back in August of 2015. So now I have to supply my own bags, which cost me $77.75 including shipping, for 100 bags.

Checking in Mastermind, your finds have been very similar to mine as of late. In a bit of a slow and steady lull but I have had a few hot boxes sprinkled in so keep after 'em!

I'd love to set up a bag dump, even if I did have to supply my own bags. Searching 100,000k worth of halves would be more than enough to cover the cost. My dump banks just have always refused saying they'll just have to run it through the counter anyway. Are your bag dumps ones with coin counters or without? Maybe that's the key...

Anyway, keep it up and good luck in March!

There is only one branch of my dump bank that allows me to dump bags. They do have a coin counter, but there are quite a few hunters in my area who frequent this branch, so they allow all of us to dump bags. Much easier on the tellers and requires less maintenance on the coin machine.

March is typically my best month, so I'm hoping for some good boxes. Good luck to you as well, thanks.

Picked up two boxes of halves + $220 in CWR of halves + $32.50 in loose halves yesterday.

Skunked on one of the boxes and all of the CWR.

The other box gave up one 40%er: 1968D.

The loose halves gave up one 90%er: 1961 Ben.

Picked up four boxes of halves yesterday, three of which were skunks.

The fourth box gave up three 40%ers:

1967 x 2

I do all my dumping in bags, Amazon has them for 63.99 for prime members free shipping ( Coin Bags - 13 x 22 Tamper Evident - Single Handled - Box of 100 Bags) Sold by Bank Supplies.

Sorry I don't have the link handy, my dump banks use to supply me too, that didn't last to long though... so this is the cheapest I could find bags, they are tough bags! Wish they would let me fill them with more than $500.00, they hold $1000.00 easily. HH, Maverick.
