Hit a small tear out on Saturday, fairly close-in to town (Portland). had the 10.5" stock coil. A portion of the area was from the old sidewalk, and the only old finds were from this 12' x 6' or so section. I had noticed a portion of a round object in the dirt, but it looked white, so I did not initially consider it to be anything. It wasn't until I was knealing and digging my first wheat cent that I casually put my coil over the object. The scream almost scared me, but it was great to know it was big silver. About 1/3rd of the coin was exposed, so I then carefully lifted it out of the ground and placed it in my car. Did not know what i had until i got home, as it had clumps of dirt on it (lots of clay in town closer to the river). I first saw the back and the Orleans mint mark, then I ran it unter warm water to slowly allow the clumps to fall off. Quite surprised at the date to say the least. My 3rd olders US coin, and first silver half. Unfortunatley it received some scraping on both sides, which would have been from it being moved a bit by the dozer that was in the tear up area. Some new fill rock had been put in along the edges where a new curb was built, and the Seated was nearit . It also has an older gouge along the eagle's right wing. I see my picture taking prowess is stellar as usual (sorry). Cents were: 1905 IH, 1913-D, 1918-D, 1923-S, 1929-S, and 1925-S (not pictured, went back yesterday with 6x8 SEF coil). All of these coins were 2-7" in depth. Found newer bullet, key, 1979 Lincoln in the non-old re-tear up area, and a decent amount of junk overall.
Thanks for looking.
