One thing I do know is the weather man knows nadda. If you're lookin' for that kinda info you have to talk to Glenn (TreasurediggerNY). I do believe he had some kinda divine intervention going this morning :) To say that the weather report looked bleak is an understatement. Well, take whatever they said and reverse it to a PERFECT day and that's what we got. Sun, cool, and a nice breeze.

Glenn was well prepared and brought enough dunkin' donuts to feed an army and plenty of "Joe to Go" to awaken even the sleepiest of hunters before the start of the hunt. With a great deal of sugar and caffeine in our blood systems, we began our ascent in search of silver and gold :) Well, this was a pretty BIG park with some elevation that was made evident by the huffing and puffing by the time we got to where we were hunting :) I think I speak for everyone when I say, we're all out of shape :D

By the time I realized it, everyone had gone in different directions. I climbed a path toward the "summit" and found a nice little green area. Coming off of that was another path and I simply followed it. Just a couple of swings into the path, I got a great signal. I had my video cam in my backpack. Did I take it out? Nah... Dug down about 2 or 3" and found this nice Barber Quarter. I was screaming "SILVER" at the top of my lungs and doin' a little "happy dance" :)

Well, about 2 feet away from there, I got another nice signal that I was sure was silver. Did I take my video cam out of my backpack? Nah.... I dug down and got this puppy :) Here's the cleaned up pics (it was pretty black). My very first Barber dime :)

At this point, I start screamin' "SILVER" again and doin' another little "happy dance". A couple of more swings, no more than a foot away from the Barber dime, I hit another good signal. Did I take my video cam out of my backpack this time? Nah....

Dug down a couple of inches and found a Merc... Where's a 1916 D when you need it? :)

At some point after that, I heard that Ricardo had a "run-in" with the Park Police. Seems he was digging in an area that a "woman" ranger deemed was a "manicured lawn". Ricardo said she was a, well, you can figure out the rest... Anyway, she gave him a violation for, now get this... $250!!!! He took pics of the area and of her truck driving over this "sensitive" manicured lawn as she drove away. Bummer for him... but justice will prevail :)

Pretty soon after that, we all seemed to congregate as one around a picnic area. Glen was well prepared once again and started up the grill he brought with him. Hot dogs, hamburgers.... just what the doctor ordered :)

I apologize guys, but for the life of me, I can't remember your names! (but I'll see you both at the next meeting :) )

I don't know about anyone else, but after all that eating, all I wanted to do was take a nap :) However, we made our way out for the 2nd round of hunting.

Didn't find a heck of a lot after that... just a Rosie that barely made silver :)

I thought you were right behind us... did you hunt the park at all or did you just go to the beach? (I bet it was cold!)

Thanks for the kind words Joe, I want to thank you and everyone else who came. It was really nice meeting you all. I had a great time  Let's do it again!!

Joe, Great haul of silver man, cleaned up nice too wtg.

I posted my pics below including my finds, 2 firsts for me. My first Buffalo 1923 and my first silver of the year a 1920 Merc.

Yo Glenn, did you leave any pulltabs??? :o Real happy to hear you got a Merc (nice one too) You deserved a nice find for all the work you put into organizing this thing. Really had a blast of a time. My guess is they'll be at least twice as many next time

Sounds and looks like a great hunt there, Joe!!
Congrats on your barbers. That was your first ever barber dime? :icon_scratch: Fantastic!!

Too bad about Ricardo's run-in with the Ranger lady. Some of those rangers are really cool, but others are complete #$%@#s.

Next time videotape some of those silver digs. I'd like to see old silver being recovered.

I had plans to video my digs, but I forgot the cam adapter for the tri-pod at home. It's such a pain to hold the cam and dig at the same time... I have to tell you though, it was SO unexpected, I just didn't think of the video cam. I've only found 2 Barbers total ever and here I got two in a row. I just went a little brain dead. Believe me, I would have loved to have gotten them on tape. Next time :)

looks like that was an awesome hunt that you guys had! Really enjoyed the pictures and I am glad that everyone had a good hunt! Wish I Could of been there!

Hey Lowtones,
We saw your buddy there, Seth right? Nice guy gave us the lay of the land. He was there when I dug the Buffalo Nickel. We're definitely doing this again, hopefully you guys can make it.
Good Luck,
Glenn

HEY JOE G, NOW THAT I SEE YOUR SILVER FINDS I REALLY REALLY REGRET NOT BEING ABLE TO GO.
:BangHead:
FROM THE LOOKS OF IT YOU SKUNKED EVERYONE ON THE SILVER.

I'M GREEN WITH ENVY. BUT THEN AGAIN I DON'T HAVE THE LUCK FOR FINDING SILVER.

HARRY, BRONX REGIMENT.

All the tabs payed off with a nice Buffalo! Hey Glenn thank you so much for a great time! Glenn really went above and beyond to put this together and i really had a blast. I tried looking for you so us Fisher swingers could hunt together but you left me to the lab and white guys. The knife looks like the blade of a hand scythe. Used years ago for cutting tall grass etc.

Hey Joe Just got off the phone with Glenn he said ya'll great time,, I wish I could have been there.. Hats off to Glenn for putting that together   And great finds Joe WTG,,, Sounds like this could be the start of an annual event,,
