All Treasure Hunting
I returned to the park that I hit on Monday. The temperature was 40 degrees with no wind. Because of the frequency of my digging, I almost took off my sweatshirt.
The E-trac was my weapon of choice and I was using the S.E.F. coil, I was able to get right up against a low wall that had obviously been used as a bench. I must have picked out 50 coins in this area alone. Lots of trash but the S.E.F. is more than capable of separating the trash from the good targets.
After a 5 hour hunt, the coin total was 131. The coin find of the day was a 1908 Indian Head penny. It was 8 inches deep. It was pretty caked and worn. Almost toast. A bath in hot Hydrogen Peroxide and then a soak in olive oil brought it back to life.
I also hit a lot of costume bling. I chased 3 pieces of a bracelet until I was satisfied that I got it all. I also found 4 key fobs and some brass scrap.
The most unusual find of the day was a "Swift's Golden West Fatted Fowl" lapel pin. My research on line says the patent date of one,, that is for sale on Ebay,, is June 9, 1924. The back of my pin is toasted.

Your a motorcycle riding digging machine! I wish you best of everything in your move, sounds very exciting. That park look pretty darn nice, good work.

The NYC Parks Metal Detecting Permit Applications for 2017 will soon be available. You can print out an application by going to NYC Parks and hitting the Permits section. Then select "Metal Detector " and print out an application. Be sure to include a copy of your driver's license when mailing back your completed application.
I have been checked 4 times by the Park's Enforcement Police in 2016.

Is that state wide, I'm thinking about some underwater detecting this summer, I would imagine each body of water/lakes might have there own rules?

The permit will be mailed to you with a list of all parks where metal detector use is allowed. There are currently approximately 160 parks and 13 beaches on that list. All of these parks are under the control of the New York City Parks Department and are located in the five counties that make up the city.
State Parks have their own rules as do County Parks.
I have done a tremendous amount of research on all 62 NY Counties and the rules vary from county to county. If you have any specific location in mind, PM me. I may have information for that location.
Many NYC public beaches put out buoys during the swimming season. You can not steer or anchor your boat on the beach side of those buoys.
