I recently obtained permission to hunt a church yard built in 1890 so I went and did an hour long scout on the half acre lot. I hit penny after penny with many being 66 and newer. 2 wheats in the 50's and canadian pennies from the 40's.......what makes me scratch my head is they were all 6" deep....2 70's quarters and 3 66 and newer dimes were also at this depth.......I was told the lawn was never redone that the owner could recall. I don't want to tear this place up but I feel I may need to in order to get closer to turn if the century. Btw.....I passed by 20 penny hits in ten feet because they were 6" and I got tired of digging them.

That church yard is working out good for you. Good thing you didn't quit after day one.

I wouldn't keep asking the guy, he's already told you to "go for it" of course I haven't seen your holes, sounds like they might be not so nice if you are that concerned, do you use a pin pointer ?

My holes are all nice and neat.....there's just so many in a small area......yes I use a propointer. I have been fortunate to get plenty of rain here so the ground can recover

Seems to be working out very well . Congratz. NICE SILVER

Maybe you'll find an Indian or two next time.

Yeh specially relying on an at pro to correctly id something at 6 inches....lol

Nothing id's "correctly", you dont know what it is 'til you dig it, of course. My pro id's high pitch on clad, copper and silver at 6" to even 8". Iffy deep signals (you know what iffy is, right?) are always some sort of brass or bronze goody, as experienced with any decent machine. Try using pro mode (you know what pro mode is, right?) with atpro, not standard mode, that is why you are having trouble.

Actually I did get 1 indian...1907 soaking in olive oil right now.

I would try to see if the S. Koslowski guy is still alive from Dexter NY. That would be pretty neat to be able to return his badge if he's still around. Might make an old man very happy. Way worth more than the value of the badge itself. Just a thought. Looks like you are from there too so it wouldn't be hard to see when he was a member of the F.D.

Many great finds by changing the coil. Really awesome!

Never ran an AT Pro but it seems to working out very well for you. I am loyal to no company. None have offered loyalty to me so I go with what I think will work and what I can afford. I do plan on getting an AT PRO sometime in the future for water hunting in creeks. Congrats for all the finds.

How sandy is the soil where you are? I was up in Cape Cod last week and had access to some pretty old properties that had probably never been detected before. Although I did find some nice things (yet to be posted) I was digging lincolns at 6"+ in some places and a silver Roosevelt dime ('47) at about 8"-10" and this was at a house built in 1730! It was frustrating because I know there are great things that are too deep for my darn detector to reach! The soil was very sandy and I think things sink deeper in sandy soil. I hope to try again at some point with my CTX-3030 and 18" coil, but I still think many items will unfortunately be too deep in some yards. Each yard seems to be a bit different though. At another yard about a mile away, there were Colonial items not nearly as deep. At yet another house down the road from this one, I dug a modern clad pocket spill at 4"-6" and then an 1866 2 cent piece right under it at about 10". The 2-cent piece the way it was situated was near the edge of my detection depth and was an iffy signal and this is with an Explorer SE Pro. Glad I dug it though. You could try an SE Pro or CTX for a bit more depth. The AT Pro is a fine machine--a buddy of mine uses one and does well--but we have compared signals and the Explorer line definitely gets a bit more raw depth with better ID. I'm looking forward to trying the bigger 18" coil out in some of these places where it seems the items are deeper.

The property owner at the 1730s house is very cool and I'm sure she would let me excavate a trial area on the property. It would be interesting to see if indeed there are items at 12"-24". I would love to hear if anyone here has ever done this with good results.

I have done some light research on the badge with no real leads....I am going down to village office this morning to ask them. The soil in this yard is loamy and quite compacted. If you go one lot over it could be loaded with slag....hit or miss in my area. As for detectors I am looking at the ctx3030 as my upgrade but I'm holding off for a year just to see what comes out. I have only gone one direction on this lot and only covered half the total property. This place has surprised me everytime I have gone.....so much that I haven't been to my other spots since. I do have a couple whats-its I will post soon

looks like that place is producing lots of finds

Good thing you stuck with it!

I'd probably faint if I found all that silver (and especially a half) all in one hole! Awesome!

well i finally sucked up the pain and went back for the first time out since summer.....My first Barber Quarter.....very worn but doesnt matter
