This is erroneous thinking; just because he bought it there does not mean it was manufactured there. The guy in Thailand gets them from China.

Yeah, Oh I agree that its probably chinese. But my point is, it's not just the US getting all the crap into collections.

Yeah, doesn't look good. From your photos it almost looks sand blasted. A coin with that little wear should have lots of mint luster....toned or otherwise. I can see why he sold it at a swap meet. The coin shop probably told him to take a hike.
