Tonight I found my oldest coin ever an 1816 One Half Reale . At a location I and others have hunted to death for years . It was in a spot worn away by erosion . It was not much more than an inch deep . I was using an F-75 . One reason it may never have been found is because there is lots of trash there and an underwater metal drainage pipe nearby .

I agree.

And an Excellent Find.

You should definitely post this under the Spanish Cob category to get some experienced opinions. This I am quite sure it isn't just your average 1/2 reale, it's better. The bust is nothing close to what it should be, and the coin is very crude over all. I apologize in advance if I'm wrong but this looks very good to me. (I like counterfeits)

If not counterfeit (it does look silver) I'm also interested in the explantion why it looks that way.

Wow , that never even crossed my mind . I have never seen a Reale ( or even a picture of one in good shape ) . Maybe it was minted by a drunken Spaniard and possibly is still a real Reale . I'll have to seek out the wisdom of some experts and hopefully they wont be drunk . So I guess we can say with all certainty that I found my first "maybe Reale" . Whatever it turns out to be It has shown me a lot of joy so far . Thanks for your input .

Either way you can't lose George, it can only get better.

Nice find! For what it's worth that is a half real as apposed to a half reale. Reale with an "e" is the plural...
