I bought this coin 2 days ago for $2.00 from a guy who says he don't like any coins only Civil War relics. So, I say to each is own and yes I will pay $2.00 for that. Thank you!..... Any suggestions for cleaning it? Mike
Mike, the Pm I sent you earlier today is the best way to clean the coin with out damaging the coin...

use distilled water soak to loosen / wash off the dirt and then gently pat / dab it dry (do not wipe or rub) other than that let it be as is

Im assuming thats the peroxide method, as thats the best way to go on this one!

I'd just use a soft enough dry brush that won't scratch the coin and brush off some of the access dirt. I would not add water or anything, maybe go with some distilled warm water to remove the little dry dirt on it. Warm Proxide could work but maybe a little harsh, may lose that patina. I'd stick with the dry brush if I could.

Nice find !! :icon_thumleft:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

Dude....ok, do whatever you want with it. But I'd say at least wash the friggin dirt clumps off the coin with some water. :tongue3: I think the "no cleaning" buzz gets out of hand sometimes. It certainly applies to regular coins, but when we're dealing with metal detecting finds, it's a whole different ball game. And don't get me wrong; I personally never clean any silver coins I find, for originality's sake. For most of em, other than appearance, it wouldn't really matter anyway even if I did, as they're just barbers, mercs, rosies, etc.
Anyway, glad you got a hold of a coin you like. It looks nice.
