Hello All,

First off, Diggergirl and I went to VA to catch a couple hunts with my mentor. He has been digging since 1969, and most of the relics and coins dropped in the county between colonial days and the Civil War are in his collection! I saw some amazing things in his collection, including eyepopping CW relics, a great Seated Half, a KG Hibernia copper dated 1760 that was beautiful, green, and had enough detail to see George's hair and eye! Anyhow, we went on a couple hunts trying to locate a CW camp that he has been on the trail of for about ten years. It's the only one in a 75 mile radius he hasn't personally discovered and dug.

We struck out. My find of the week was this:

But, the greatest part of the hunts were that they brought back so many memories. I am so grateful to my mentor for getting me into the greatest hobby in the world over 20 years ago. I have spent many days wandering the fields, and sometimes not finding much in Virginia. For me, it's about more than finding...which is probably why I find as much I do. :)

Had a photo op with him and DiggerGirl. :)

I also got to do some detecting with my Dad. :)

Anyhow, back to Louisiana...

We have had a very mild week here, and Shanegalang and I managed to get a weekday free to go diggin. I ended up getting my first 1802-06 1st Regiment of Artillery button. Glad to finally get one. Also got some musketballs, flat buttons, pipe stems, and part of an English gun flint. We were finishing up the "barrel tap graveyard," which means that we are now officially out of a site till harvest. We will make do, of course--and the plowing will happen in the coming weeks for the seed cane, so that will provide opportunities which will carry us till rolling season.

Enjoy the video and photos.

Best Wishes,

Really great find on the Artie Button. Hope to find one someday. Congrats.............Hogge

Great pics and getting together is the best, nice going on the button.

Thats what it is all about buddy, friendships and time spent with those people are better than any finds to be made.In today's fast paced life(and especially with kids....which I reckon you and Diggergirl will be experiencing very soon) we dont often take the time to make a phone call to close friends let alone taking the time to just stop in,let alone actually plan an outing together.Fantastic button, and even better to be one you have never dug!!

Haha, no plans for kids from either of us! Gotta protect and guard that valuable detecting time! :D You are so right. Friendships and relationships are what it's about--and if not the relationships between diggers, then the relationships between what we dig and who lost it and when.

Regards,

Buck

Awesome finds, that Button is a very special find indeed.....and also, where can I get those Black squares with measurements on them, they are really nice in letting us see about what size the the is,Thanks

You can find them online. Look for "folding magnifier" on ebay or amazon Get the small ones (they are only about 2 inches square). Put the camera lens right on the lens with a macro setting and they get wonderful photos.

Great find on the button there BB, nice to see 3 generations of diggers out there all at one.
ZDD

Or at least two generations. She's my fiancee, not my daughter. :D

It was a great day weather wise. always better with a coin but your military button was a welcomed find. Here I have flat buttons and pipe stems, two small musket balls, a clay marble and a small piano hinge that I was actually able to free up. I learned not to sit down in fire ants. Hadnt done that in years and it STILL hurts!

Great day, the best we've had here since May! You will get the silver, and it will be the 40th one in 2 years for us!

I always get excited when I get a penny signal & a bit frustrated when it ends up being a wheatie (especially at an old site). Oh well, better than a memorial! That's an awesome artillery button! Congrats!

Sometimes I get a little frustrated too. Then I think about the weather, or the fact that I can go digging in terms of free time, and good health, or I think about how much I like digging with those I'm digging with... It's so important to keep a positive attitude. Our minds are our greatest asset in this hobby, and they can be our biggest adversary too.
A very nice button!

It seems that you think a lot like I do. It really isn't about the finding. I've come away from some hunts very, very tired and with little to show for the effort. But, some how, I always smile when I think over that hunt. It is just a great way to spend time.

Keep up the good show.

HH!

You're exactly right. Even if ya dig nothing on a hunt, in the words of my mentor "at least we know where it wasn't." And knowing where it wasn't can at times be almost as good as knowing where it was. Narrows down the options.

Cheers,

Buck
