1800's silver, fishscale, military button... and a messy site.

I hit a spot recently that has been "hunted out". It's been hunted alright... by a bunch of useless morons.

I literally filled 30 + holes today. Some were so big, they made you wonder what in the hell they were digging for. "They must be using a winter shovel", I thought to myself...
There were batteries thrown out in the middle of the field. Junk was left in their holes. There was absolutely no respect whatsoever for our hobby or for the landscape. Sure, it was a field... in the woods, not far from a path... but that doesn't make it ok. You're just going to ruin it for all of us.

I know I'm not perfect, but I've learned from my mistakes. These guys just keep on doing the same 'ole.

Apologies, rant over.

Military button? Naval? Costume? Maybe one of you can help with ID. (Ahem, IronPatch)

1916 5 Cents (fishscale)

1888 Victoria 25 Cents (The reverse is wasted. I could barely make out the date...)

Lead seal? (This one's for you smokers...)

Some sort of "Star" pin.

Happy hunting!

I agree with you about the holes. Even if I'm hunting remote wooded sites I like to cover my tracks. I fill the hole and spread the leaf litter back over it. Just in case someone is following me. :o Great hunt in the woods!

Lol @ Loyalist. Nice try... I know it wasn't you.

It does appear to have a horse or stag in the shield. It's just so corroded, that I can only make out a few of the letters. If it's in Latin, I'll never guess the sentence. C'est la vie!

Soak it in lemon juice for 15 minutes with a little brushing and you'll read it as easy as reading this post. If you want to keep the patina try peroxide first. (no water)
