So finally had a day to hunt longer then a hour...I had alot of fun.
Even Treblehunter came up for a little bit.
Although he left to soon...Right after he left I pulled the draped bust out.
I love hunting areas were there was foot traffic for hundreds of years. .
The best find for today was a button that has RP on it with a crown..Its made of pewter I belive its from the revaluationary war. It was found were the British was camped...Hope its the real deal...
Anyway I have lots of pics...enjoy. and
HH...George

Vino, since nobody has replied about your request (quoted above) since you posted it, I'll answer. Pepperj is right, you found a (cuff-size) Virginia State Seal button, manufactured for use by Virginia State Militia troops. Your cuff-size version is not shown in the button-book by Alphaeus H. Albert... but it is shown as button VA226aS2 (with the same backmark as yours, "EXTRA * QUALITY *) in the Warren K. Tice book. Tice says "Steele & Johnson [in Waterbury CT] probably made these crude buttons in the 1850s." Although your button was manufactured in Connecticut in the 1850s, civil war button-collectors and diggers call it a Confederate button, because many "pre-war Northern-manufactured Southern state militia buttons have been dug in wartime Confederate entrenchments and campsites. Some Confederate army units briefly entered other parts of Pennsylvania besides the Gettysburg battle, so perhaps your button was lost on one of those other occasions.

Excellent detail on the 1798 LC Vino. Sweet! :occasion14:

What was it you said you do for living? Go around digging up the land to supply a museum somewhere? ;) LOL

Excellent!
