Relic Hunting
Today was the highlight of my 22 years of detecting. My buddy Dale and I went relic hunting today. We hit a nice cleared site and began finding both union and confederate relics. After awhile I got a signal that hit like a bullet on my Explorer. I was surprised to see a silver coin in my dirt pile. At first I thought I had dug a Spanish silver but after looking more closely I knew I had something very rare. A couple years ago I dug a 1916 D Mercury dime but that doesnt compare to this 1792 Half Disme. Here is a little history of this coin. There were 1500 minted and then Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson took them all to Monticello and then dispersed them into circulation. There are but a few hundred in collections now. This is a day I will never forget nor will ever top. Thanks for looking and enjoy!

Marc congrats on finding an incredible relic of early American history. I am stoked my buddy Rch called me up to ask me if I had seen the post. I was having a pretty difficult day and this just took me right out of that problem. Thanks for sharing your good fortune with us all. I am sure that was one hunt you and Dale will never forget. All the best.

Outstanding!

After doing some reading on that coin, I can't even put into words what an awesome find that is!!!!! The history alone, knowing how it was minted, in whose basement, where the silver came from, who dispersed them, etc. That is the most incredible find I have ever seen!!!

Congrats
Rich

A great find...But why no other pics just one crappy shot with some lead, why no close ups both sides, why not plaster this site with pics so we can enjoy your find??? we all want to see more

Marc...That has to be one of the best finds i've ever seen. I have been detecting since 1987 and never saw anything quite like that... Congratulations on a SUPER FIND!!!!!!!!!

Re: 1792 Half Disme???

Just curious....

The Red Book only lists 1794 and later. These were placed into circulation??

It Should be listed before the Half Cents.

as "FIRST UNITED STATES ISSUES"

there was also a Disme but there are only 3 of them known.

and yes the Half Disme was in Circulation.
Otherwise any found would be in mint condition.
they wouldn't list a price for a Good.

Found it listed under "Colonial Coinage" in an older red book "US Coin Digest"

Awsome dig man, that is about as good as it gets!

Congratulations.. I keep telling people about this find cause it's just so amazing.

Sure beats my best. Interesting history there indeed... of course more valuable coins exist, but the historical value seems unmatchable.

This is American history 101. Best single coin find ive ever heard of. Excellent work. I wish i could`ve seen the look on your face when you actually knew what you were holding. Man holding 1792 half disme PRICLESS!!!

That half Disme is still one of the best finds .....I have seen in quite some time , but we know there is another one out there somewhere and I hope it's one of us in this site that finds the next one! WTG Keep on Digging!
