1700's Admiral Rodney cufflinks

I don't think yesterday was a total washout for me after all folks. Kirk,Kyle and I detected at the bountiful site again and Kirk found his Canadian Fishscale. I found a set of colonial cufflinks that have been preliminarily been identified by our good friend Ironpatch as being most likely bearing the name and likeness of a Lord Rodney. British commander from the early 1700's to late 1700's. I do see the letters ROD on the top left. I plan on doing more research on this fact when I get back from a walk with my wife. My dog is also looking longingly at her leash. Enjoy everyone.

Awesome find Chris. Definitely a nice change of pace from finding coins. What makes finds like this so cool is the personal history behind them. I really hope you get a positive ID on these cufflinks. Most certainly a BANNER find if you do. :o
I know man. Being mostly a coin guy it took a little time for it to hit me. I'm learning to appreciate the other stuff also.

I used my photo software to bring out some more detail in one of your cufflinks.

It appears that you have actually found a set of "Cap'n Crunch" cufflinks.

If you look closely at the other cufflink you will see that it is a match.
I think i got a set of these cufflinks in a box of Capn. crunch when I was a kid. ;D

Zeus are you able to clean them more? could you put them in a hot peroxcide bath?
I havent decided about that yet.

This picture is different than the other, did you clean them, or is it just the lighting?

It is closer with better lighting. Super Macro instead of regular Macro. No more cleaning.

Thanks SF. This is the kind of thing that will divert a coinhunter for sure. I would like to see a picture of what the cufflinks would look like in an unaltered state.

Not as old as some of the things you find on your own turf but for here this kind of thing is smoking cool. Thanks Mike

I will be looking for some collectors to e-mail later today. This just adds to the great artifacts that we already recovered at this site in just 4 trips.

I would leave em alone. The detail looks like it's in the patina and those usually get worse. But still an in person judgement call.

Re: Possible 1700's Admiral Rodney cufflinks

Chris, those are absolutely wonderful
Iron Patch has good advice. . . I wouldn't chance cleaning them any further.

You and the nephew's have found an awesome site!

Best of luck in futures hunts!

Nice find on the links. I hope that you find out some more information about it. It is very interesting to think that someone of that stature may have been in the same field that you are now hunting. Gotta wonder how they came to rest in that field. That is really cool history.

Ed, more along the lines of a GW type find, not lost by the person, just created as more (for lack of a better term) a patriotic type piece.

(was just given a better term, to honor him, that makes more sense)

Hey Chris,

I found out some information on your cuff links and you were way off base. You were looking at the wrong Rodney! LOL

Yeah I already made my mind up to leave them be. I don't think cleaning them any more will bring even a miniscule more detail to the forefront.
