lol ok but don't you think we should have found more then 10 buttons and that coin?? I'm just hopeing there's a lot more there!
No not really, some of my best finds have come from quiet area's....just keep looking, it can take time to winkle out the goodies sometimes.

Wow! What an interesting coin find. I hope it is real and valuable.

Great find in North America but I'm on the other side as compared to many on here as I don't think a find is banner worthy on age alone. To me it just does not fit with what is up there now... and I've been there too, having dug a 16th century coin in 2013 that didn't even bring up the topic of banner.... and it was one issued for the Colonies. The standard is high these days, but I like it that way.

You know ...
I do not know about everyone else here...
But I can say this...
Very few good spots are ever "hunted completely out".
I have hunted a spot and found nothing...
Gone back another time and hit several things that you know where there the first time.
And this works vise versa...
A lot of factors in my opinion play a big part in "finding"
#1. Settings
#2. air and ground temperatures
#3. whatever situation on that particular day... sheesh the dag gum magnetic pull from the moon for all I know.. heh

A prime example of this is the Celtic hoard found in England.
That field had been hunted many times... top to bottom...
Now think of it... the hoard contained some 3,500 pieces.
Yet no one before him found it...
But the right conditions...
Right day... right settings... right whatever... sheesh the stars were aligned right who knows..
Bam the rest is history.

Also... I cannot even tell you how many times I have worked behind other MDrs...
locating what they did not.
Just did it the other day with that superman ring.
As well as the day after with another ring... Same spot.
According to one of my "trash/cleanup" crew guy friends (my spies/intell heh) a guy was in that area all day.
Welp he missed 2 and a bunch of change.
A brass swivel snap. etc.

Congrats button king, that is an awesome find! :icon_thumleft:

As for the "Making Banner/Banner Vote" conversation part of this thread, I will say this. I'm not exactly sure what makes the final decision from the moderators to approve banner because I have to say that age, rarity of location relic was found, historical significance, and magnitude of said finds in that site doesn't always matter either. My brother novatreasure dug a Rev War 1775 Continental Army U.S.A Pewter Button, 1732 King George II half penny, 1787 New Jersey Copper, broken Pewter button half that was a Script "I" Revolutionary War Infantry button, a saddle shield, along with many other flat buttons, cuff buttons, thimbles, also 18th century blacksmithing tools and many other colonial relics found by him and myself. Did I mention this was all found on one great site we discovered here in KENTUCKY! Although we were part of the Virginia Territory in that time period, it is an extremely rare location to dig such significant Revolutionary and Colonial relics. I know numerous Banner Votes were submitted but, it never surfaced???

It's all about enjoying our hobby anyway. Recovering history and goodies beneath our feet that others have passed by for generations. It takes the time, effort, research, permission, tools and the passion to do what we do. Good luck my friends in 2015, and hope we all have great finds and discoveries to share. Maybe you missed the main point, the rules state it must be found by the Tnet member.

Yes Crusader, I understand. He is a member on here and it was his thread that was submitted and voted for.

No, the finder must post to get any votes that count. (In the same way my Dads finds don't count)

Crusader, he is a member, and he was the finder that posted the hunt. I was just sharing my knowledge of his experience on here with such a find and the outcome of not making banner with rare finds in a rare location. I hunted the site with him and made many satisfactory finds myself, but he is the one that found the most significant finds and posted them on here.

I don't make the rules:

He was the poster, not the finder:
''Find must be found by a current TNet individual, YOU.''

Looks real to me as well. It "looks" a little too round, but everything else appears legit. where did you find it? Not a rare coin in across the pond, but rare for the US.

We said all that, its the real deal OK, but read the rest. I agree, but the question where did 'you' find it, means more reading.

Part of the reason I post is to have a good record of my finds on top of the journal that I keep. It's a great way to keep track of your hunts and have good pics of your finds. Another well respected member on here prints off every post at the end of the year. He puts them in a notebook by year. I think that's a great idea. And if people don't care a out my finds.... So be it. But I know the guys that enjoy the colonial stuff will prob enjoy seeing it. The banner is what it is and that's that. But that's not why I post. I post because I truly enjoy seeing others finds and if a few appreciate mine it's all worth it

Congrats - I just voted banner. It makes sense to me - How many detectorists can claim to have recovered a 16th century silver coin in the US? I believe that you have to look at the totality of circumstances for each find - its value, rarity, condition, location, where discovered, historical significance, etc.

Now see that was a much more pleasant response, and you are absolutely right it is my option, and as my lack of threads started lately would suggest,i did choose and tnet missed out on 2 big cache finds, one with historical ties to someone famous, but hey it is what it is.... ok now im done

See, now your sharing/coming around. Fotget the numbers/& the banner votes. Share the History with us, if you get 2 views & no votes, who cares, you know the importance & that is what matters. The world is an unfair place, everyone in the know, knows. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. Start taking part & we will never have this debate again........
