Hey man sounds like it's real and that's a hell of a find for the states! Congrats man. Not many hit the 1500s bro. Great job

I would happy to get that one on either side of the pond, nice silver.

Definitely a 16th century Lizzie sixpence, and it looks absolutely real to me. These turn up in MD and VA at the earliest sites, and are pretty rare to dig. I was fortunate to find 7 Lizzie sixpences at one site a few years ago mixed in with other hammered coins from the early 1600s, and then dug an 8th a couple of years ago at a different site. Where there's one there could be more so keep hitting that site hard. Super nice find!

Bill those fantastic, what a great picture

Nice Lizzy - congrats

I just voted banner, I don't know why everyone else has not done the same?

Brad - it seems these are so commonly found in the UK that the moderator feels they're not banner-worthy. I've posted several of the same coin over the last 4-5 years, and one as recently as 2 years ago, and apparently it got no banner consideration. I think it needs to be considered where the find was dug. These are quite rare in the US (much more so than a gold coin), and should be recognized as such. I'm voting banner for that very reason.

I have to tel you that I'd be pretty bummed if I found a coin on US soil that predates Jsmestown and The Popham Colony and got no Banner consideration. I'd like to know how many US hunters are in the 1500s club. Damn few I'm betting!

Awesome find! Can't get much older than that around here. Well unless your that ten year old that found a hoard of roman coins here on the easternshore. Hit that area hard, I hope you get some more. HH! Banner vote in.

I suspect it's not the moderator's fault. The banner system is flawed in one area, IMHO. It depends on how many votes it gets, first!

This makes the finds subject to whatever cliques are big enough to determine. I still say that since I've been here these last couple years, I've seen more "rhubarb" over the question, "To banner or not to banner!", than anything else. Sometimes, I wonder just how many other sites' members come on here just to see what they can put over on T-net. I told one person in the field that I was on T-net and he started laughing out loud! "THOSE TURKEYS!!!" Some do not see this place as serious.

I suggest we do away with the vote and allow the moderators to decide how they want to decorate THEIR site with a "banner" up top.

I don't usually vote for this thing called "banner" because I feel it's a useless effort. But, I will vote banner for this, just in case my clique is big enough . ;)

WTG!

To me the Banner is about my fellow hunters believing I found something that is worthy. The respect of my fellow hunters and their opinion on a find is what's important to me. This Banner thing seems like it's not based solely on the votes.

It is, without them, they won't even be considered. That part, is where this fails. Our "fellow hunters" is an extremely
nice thought, (albeit naive).

That said, there would still be those people who would complain about what didn't get up top even if it was only up to the moderators.
But, it wouldn't depend on how many "fellow hunter" friends one has, in order to be considered.

Again, IMHO. :dontknow:

I have to echo what Abe said. Finding this coin in the US is rare. Bill D has found a handful yet he's never had one go to the top. Perhaps it's time the moderators and those running the show reexamine the criteria that determines what is and is not banner worthy.

Do you suppose that the reason it didn't make the banner was due to the lack of votes? This, because people who vote are thinking these not rare because they've seen so many of them from across the pond? and NOT because the moderators are holding them back?

Great find for the US with out doubt, it's a shame that this find might not make the banner, because it is a very hard dated find to beat, in a coin anyway. But it won't be the first, nor the last find that should have made the banner....I'm off to vote now.

Congrats on a great find! :icon_thumleft:
We all know it's a very rare find for the location. You got my vote too for exact that reason. Hope you make it up on top!
