If spots are from metal fusion, heating the coin should have no noticable effect.
Yeah, I tried heating it last night and had no luck with those black spot.

I'm still leaning towards zapping it with short intervals and not letting it out of my site while doing so.

Thanks again for your suggestions and I will post a cleaned up photo when I get it cleaned up.

Wow DJH that is a freaking nice find right there. Awesome to see a CC mint coin pop up now and again. Congrats and hopefully you can pilfer all the downtown tear outs going on. :thumbsup: jgas
 

Great coin!
I use Nevr-Dull to clean coins. It is cotton wadding impregnated with cleaning fluid. It will not scratch your coin. Your local hardware store should have some.
